As a general guideline in ritual, I would say: Take the action that causes the least further disruption, without compromising the integrity of the ritual.

For standardized rituals, sometimes that means starting over again - sometimes redoing the last step - sometimes going on because it was a matter of no real consequence.

With longer rituals this is a good method of self-discipline, as one gets quickly tired of repeating a 15 or 30 minute ritual because one forgot to say "Adonai" after the closing banishing. I've learned to have a solid grasp of the ritual beforehand, and to never let a ritual go unfinished once begun, e.g. "oh, I f-ed up I'll do it tomorrow." At least banish the resultant energies. Otherwise it's like leaving a turd in the toilet overnight.

In thelema, I learned the art of deliberately doing it wrong, and not so deliberately doing it wrong (because then you finally get results, whereas when you do things the "right" way you get nothing..

but over the years, I learnt that its enough to just assume that attitude of willfully making the source of mistake go away.
nowdays, I sometimes say the words and sometimes not, depending on inspiration of the moment...
