In BOTL on the front page of the original manuscript is a man with his arms wrapped over his body and the letters "i", "t" and "e" scribbled out. There is a man with his arm raised as if waving with an N next to him.

It makes sense also of the part where it says there are three degrees to the word "Thelema". If you add an "n", you get:
. The hermit (the (a)llay man)
. The lover (the lay man) and
. The man of the earth (the layman)

Is it for gematria reasons?

I-T-E is a far more powerful ending than You or Me.
There comes with it a sense of unity, moving forward.
Where Man or Woman are an infinitely slow vibration to the point of almost no movement
[EDIT: Relative to one another, that is. Beyond this I keep to my earlier comment :p]

There is more I could say, but I feel it more fruitful for you to contemplate further on your own.

I got the original manuscript from the a PDF of BOTL from the Holy Thelemic Church. Here's a screenshot.

I think that's plain enough. I have no clue where you see this picture of a man with his arms wrapped over his body.
