Superstitions in Thelema
-
Greetings everyone,
I was reading the Liber Aba and in the Magick Theory part I saw a line like;
Once the circle is made and consecrated, the Magician must not leave it, or even lean outside, lest he be destroyed by the hostile forces that are without.
What is the hostile forces mentioned here, is it something similar to bad karma or the hostile spirits are implied? Does Thelema have some superstitions or is it just an analogy? Do I have to avoid certain behaviours in my daily life to avoid such hostile forces?
Thanks in advance.

There is certainly room for different views on this, and exactly what this hostility was would vary from one ritual to another.
In that section, he was particularly speaking of evocation. During evocation, sometimes there are indeed inherently hostile entities summoned, although sometimes what is summoned is not at all inimical.
What I think is a separate layer of the matter is the psychology that is forged to make evocation effective: The right psychological state is a very intense duality, using the circle literally and figuratively to force an acute division to intensify the awareness of the "other" summoned.
Between these two facts lies another fact: The substance of the magician's emotional force is often the raw substance that material for manifestation of a summoned being, and the magician's psychological projections (intended or, if well-trained, quite intentional) is a big part of the formation. That is, whether (as I'm fairly certain) there is an actual external entity, or (as I am also fairly certain) there is a big bunch of purely psychological phenomena going on, it can bed a huge benefit if the magician intensely, obsessively buys into the intensity of a great struggle sufficient to trigger the Mars force in the form of fight-or-flight reactions.
So there's a lot that could be going on, depending on the magician and the particular working.
In any case, if you're gong to open the gates of hell and compel, with every power at your command, that its energies surge around you and concentrate into a particular center of manifestation, it's probably a really good idea not to cross outside the line of the magick circle.

If these summoned entities are real, I guess my question is extremely premature and the subject "superstition" is quite wrong. I'll have to dwell more on reading rather than asking questions at this stage.
I know the magick ritual but I don't know what it is used for. The more I read, the only place I reach is that there is much and much more to learn.
And, it will be a little out of topic but, would it be useful for me to start with "Asana" and "Pranamayama" without having deep knowledge about other parts of the study?

Some people are drawn more strongly to yoga. Some to magick. Some about equally to both. Some to no work at all
I recommend any of the first threw.
