Deception

I was introducing the idea of an HGA to a friend recently and she said she was interested but hesitant. She had recalled meeting a woman and her daughter who were in some new agey cult that was big into spirit guides and channelling. Apparently things got a bit heavy with one of the spirits and it turned nasty. The story goes that they invoked Jesus and the spirit departed so now they are born agains, go figure.
This touches on a subject of consideration though: how does one make sure contact is being made with the verifiable part of oneself we call the HGA and how do we know it's not a deluding entity? Is there a rundown one can go through to ensure contact is made with something authentic?

No such formula. However, there are precautions.
Basically, as one goes deeper into the Great Work, one gains a real magick power: a deepening "truth sense," an instinct for authenticity. This doesn't come overnight.
Second - related but different - there is value (protection, so to speak) in following the formal training of A.'.A.'. or a similar system. In the course of the training, one gains particular skills in witnessing one's own mind, dealing with different transient consciousnesses, etc. The astral work of the 1=10 alone gives enormous experience in dealing with other phenomena or beings. So to speak, one gets "street smart" about the astral. The yoga training calms and steadies one, gives skill it witnessing one's mind and what flows through it, without attachment. And on and on and on. By the time one reaches Adepts Minor, these skills are solidly in place.
Third, follow the counsel in the beginning of Liber O not to first assign to any result the first meaning it seems to have. (Again, this is something that should be solidly ingrained even in the 1=10).

"In first place HGA has value of protection upon you, though it can act aggressively if you are ruined by creeps."
An interesting line... and certainly consistent with the centuries-long tradition on the matter.
Your sentence triggered a line of thought for me, though. I'd say that the HGA's function is to hold you in intimate alignment with True Will. In turn, it is your intimate alignment with True Will that inherently protects you. (It's the formula of Harpocrates, who is immune to harm: Achilles without that heel problem.)

Jim, could we go a little deeper into what is doing that this deceiving? I read a book called "Messengers of Deception" by Jacque Vallée (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Vall%C3%A9e) He likens modern UFO and alien abduction experiences as not what they seem, rather he equates them to the trickster archetype and considering he is a computer scientist regards them as a type of control system for material reality.
I've been studying Gnostic texts lately and trying some comparisons between the Gnostic archons and the contemporary grays. Someone like Joseph Smith claims he was approached by an angelic beings, however I view his brand of religion to be repressive and isolating oneself from contacting true will. The question of deception and "who can you trust? What's the litmus test?" For an entity arose when I considered that beings on earth have been influenced by these Interdimensional beings posing as something they are not.
Now I'm familiar with the paradox of higher spiritual stations and that the secret Chiefs for example operate beyond duality and to quote Liber B vel Magi "In the beginning doth the Magus speak Truth, and send forth Illusion and Falsehood to enslave the soul. Yet therein is the Mystery of Redemption."
Are we in the midst of a war over the mind of man? If so, who are we fighting beyond other humans? Are there forces at play we can name?
Apologies for any misspelling. dictated on my mobile.

Probably no more than there has ever been.
And, in any case, even if I'm wrong about that... the solution is the same: Become an Adeptus Minor and attain to the K&C of the HGA.

But then again i am not sure at all that there are any other entities. For He has been the only One that i have ever encountered on that type of level. I consider the amount of intimate and sincere honesty unlike any other I thought that I would have never needed. I find it improbable that i would have ever made contact with any One thing other than Him.

Yes yes...much can be written on His protection. I am secure for sure...He has issues with malicious intent...
