Sounds kind of silly to ask the mountain to come to you so that you can converse with it. Isn't that what we do so often? Don't we want to the result gift wrapped and at our doorstep without any of the work? So convenient right? The journey itself with the joys and pains of it is something unto itself and a requirement, in my estimation, for any significant accomplishment. However, in attempting to journey to the very center of our own being even this effort is not enough by itself. We do grow weary on the journey and question our motivations along the way. We don't see results and grow uncertain of our methods. The mountain though is still there in its silent majesty and though we are tired we persevere onward.

At the beginning, the Goal (attainment of Union with the Divine) seems inaccessible and distant; we first call to It to come to us; then go ourselves toward It, approaching it as near as we are able to. But all this effort is in vain; it does not lead to Union, it can only serve as preparation for it, to the degree to which we are open to learn from these experiences (i.e. through them) to be silent and receptive.
(This chapter addresses Air, specifically as the mind/intellect; and various images all convey the same message: the intellect is to be trained, so that it learns to "stay out of the way" - in order for Intuition to shine forth, the Voice of Adonai to be heard.) -
