And why does it seem that most of them love to argue inane points of Thelema, Crowley, etc.? More often than not, they are not even understanding the original point. They just seem invested in hearing themselves bicker. Maybe it makes them feel intelligent or something.
I'm just annoyed because forums like this one can potentially be such a cool place to exchange ideas, but these freak-tards tend to create a space that's no fun to be in.

And people wonder why more woman don't participate....come to think of it, that's probably a question these idiots are quite familiar with.

Everyone starts out with a 'position' (and while 'missionary' isn't in favor as much these days some of the others are just as restrictive .... ) I think finding out how much our favorite ideas of what Thelema/K&C etc. are the primary <i>blockage</i> in spiritual progress is a difficult but necessary step.
Even if it does take a lot of energy and cleverness to help people begin to grasp that.

Like any new (well, relatively) or fringe movement/trend, we tend to attract not only 'actually' cool genius people but also bizarre, anti-social, anti-established, unconventional twats (can I say that? I mean it in the English sense) who are seeking a place to be heard on their adolescent rebel views. It's a normal process of growing up

Well in every group that specializes in something, even in the mudane sciences or clubs, trades, professions, etc. the members use theier own jargon and bikker about seemingly useless facts and points. In that aspect, it's a human thing, not a Thelemic or Occult thing. Go to a meeting of union Gaffers and see how many arguements there are about the proper gel to get a realistic moonlight effect, or is a kino-flo better than a ? To us, it seems stupid and pointless...to them, its thier world.
As for the retards....I thought the same when I went to my first public OTO Ritual. No offence to anyone....not ALL of them were and if you were there, I'm SURE you were not the retard.
I think anything esoteric, occult, even certain martial arts, etc. attracts usually an introvert with less than normal social skills. Not ALWAYS the case, but it happens alot. Thelema, because of it's reputation also attracts the rebelious type who doesn't really care about normal social conventions.
I remember hearing a podcast of Thelema Coast to Coast and the guys were complaining that Christian churches can manages members to come together, pool respurces, buy buildings, give donations, get assets, but the OTO could barely manage a group, let alone think about buying a building.
Why don't all of US change that? People in groups like AL, TOT, COR LUCIS, etc. certainly don't fit in with the retard model, it's just they are a bit lower key than OTO so people don't see the quality as often.
And as for women, I don't recall seeing or being involved in a group that is more female friendly than TOT or Cor Lucis. Most of the higher members are women!

Why is it that some Thelemites feel the need to over-generalize about others and rant about them - calling them idiots and freaktards? Do they feel their will is impeded by others speaking, however idiotically, abotu whatever they wish to? Do they feel threatened by others not conforming to their exact notion of what a Thelemite should be? Do they think that somehow complaining about others, and even insulting them with childish names like 'freak-tard' will make a forum 'a cool place to exchange ideas'? Seriously, WTF?

I've been a "freak" all my life. This is not to say that I don't have good social skills--I think most people find me quite pleasant. Rather I say I am a wolf among sheep--and should this not be the case? If there are sheep among the wolves then they are soon smelled out.
I wouldn't worry too much about it--if some people want to talk about Thelema like its a new Star Trek show to be analyzed for nothing more than escapist purposes and ego-stroking, or a tool to soothe a lonely and untested mind then so be it. They won't get very far.
As for freaks, may we all bear that distinguished title.
