Hey all,
I am about to submit my paperwork for minerval initiation to the OTO. I was wondering what y'all's experiences with them were, if any? I am also interested in some of the A.'.A.'. members opinions of them.Danke,

The O.T.O. is a fraternal organization which can be an excellent introduction to Thelema as a *'fraternal' *organization. That said, like all organized groups it is prone to the cliques, dramas, trials and tribulations as a bad point, and in those greater moments, celebration of a unified congregation of aspirants to the Laws of Thelema.
Most notable to the beauty shared within this fraternal order is the Gnostic Mass which has always been inspirational to me.
I personally had an excellent experience within the O.T.O. until it became self-evident that the Order itself was still ripe and unseasoned in it law governing body. At which point it became clear that I had gone as far as I needed within that fraternity. I believe that the O.T.O. can be a great vehicle for a fraternal bonding with others of like interest.
As with all things...moderation and common sense.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law
I would ask, what do I wish to make of myself in that organization? Contemplative thought on that subject will be very useful.
There are within the O.T.O. members who respect and serve those whose aspirations are pure. In fact, to that end, that is why the organization is able to survive. You are ultimately going to determine what any undertaking you persist in teaches you. If your aspirations be pure, Then they can be transmitted as such. The rituals written by Crowley continue to teach that.Love is the law, love under will.

My experiences have been very good for me. I think that someone else could experience the exact same things and have a totally different opinion. I also think the experiences are also going to depend to some degree on the people that you are dealing with. You could have a wonderful initiation system, but if it was run by people that don't care about what they are doing, or do it poorly, the experience might suffer. I have to drive hours to get to my local O.T.O. body but they work hard to keep a wonderful Temple and have a great team of members that I am happy to be a part of. I have grown to love my brothers and sisters, but I don't think I should make light of joining the O.T.O. --- Do some research and have a good idea about what you are getting into FIRST. I suggest reading the Equinox Vol 3 Number 10 (it contains The Book of the Law and several other books and essays that can help you make up your mind about joining). Some O.T.O bodies even have public classes that they offer. The classes are not the same thing as getting initiated -- so keep that in mind, but they might help you find sponsors IF you want to be in the O.T.O.

Just keep in mind that the degree of Minerval is an 'Introductory' Degree, and you have no real 'Ties' with the Order. This is a great time/ gestation period to feel out the O.T.O. and see what you think.
Also, to attend Gnostic Mass is a very great experience, and I highly encourage this.
Just from personal experience I enjoyed every bit of all of the initiations that I took:-) I was at one time a Chartered initiator myself, as well as a Chartered body master. I conducted many initiations, and from both perspectives, they are, or can be a great experience, depending on where and what body you are taking your degrees through.
I would suggest that you don't double jump and take 1st degree upon the same occasion. Take your Minerval if it be your will, and stay in it for a while.
Just personal opinion again.

Thank you all for the responses. I have actually become a minerval as of late last year. But, I do appreciate the commentary.
