Question on Ritual progression
-
Hello,
I have been practicing the LBRP for approx 2 years and the GRP for a couple of months and have been wondering what the next step would be...
Either to progress to the new aeon, thelemic equivalents in the form of "The Star Ruby" and Liber V Vel Reguli or stick with the old aeon and the onto the hexagram rituals LRH and GRH.Is there a benefit of firstly understanding the old aeon rituals and developing a basis to progress from or should i just carry them out in tandem?
Any structured feedback would be extremely appreciated.

Really, this is all according to your own interests and inner guidance.
Sorry to be so little help... hopefully that answer is the best help. If you're not involved in a specific training system (which has its own structure), then just go with what interests you.
I would suggest, though, that you not overly distinguish between Old and New Aeon forms. To this day, the traditional Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram remains, to my thinking, the single most useful ritual I know, and the one I most use. (FWIW, that was true of Crowley, too. It was for the LRP that he sent special instructions to the California O.T.O. lodge in the last decade or so of his life. Also, based on diaries, it was the rituals of Liber O, and not those of The Book of Lies etc., that Crowley personally used.)
I would suggest you consider the Middle Pillar as being one of the fundamental practices as well.

Thanks for the feedback Jim,
Coincidence, I have just recently took up the practice of the middle pillar again, so we are singing of the same hymn sheet, excuse the pun.
Using the "Golden Dawn Tapes" and Regardies "The Middle Pillar" are great guides to the process. So much so that i have lent them to friends who are just looking to mediate who have zero interest in things esoteric.
They have found it extremely beneficial. As for structure wise I like requested in a previous post am undertaking the "One Year Manual" course by Regardie at the start of the new year.
In the mean time tho and not having viewed the contents of the above book i would have at least liked to get a basic understanding of the Hexagram rituals prior to commencement.
As they are the basis for the corresponding Thelemic rituals, so far as i understand....So yes your vague, nonspecific response clarified for me my next step.
LRH & GRH it will be.
The LBRP will always be held in high regard and used often with my self.
Many thanks.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law
for my money, libers V and XXV kick the collective asses of the old aeon rituals up and down the sidewalk at high noon with crows overhead and pigeons underfoot.
i will say, though, that it really depends on the symbol set you're using. if you're doing greek symbolism, there's no replacement for Liber XXV. if you're using the NOX formula even a little bit, i HIGHLY recommend doing V and XXV both daily.
if you're using, say, norse symbolism none of the above are really appropriate, and you should just damn it all and write your own
Love is the law, love under will
