Alrah brought up a very interesting concept, one that I had actually been working on for some months now, following a dream I had. In a previous thread we had brought up the fact that our children had been dreaming of Zombies, Skeletons, and Aliens. Alrah went on to mention how it may be that those are "3 main types of classifaction of threatheing type body language." So as I took my morning brisk walk to drop off my kids at school I thought about those 3 aspects, or dare I say archtypes as a Trinity. I have often found myself musing over numbers, finding 4 of this, or 7 of that in the natural world. My favorite has always been to find Trinities. When I thought of this new boogie man group I saw how they could be played out as a Trinity as well.

I could easily resonate to the the idea that Skeleton, with its bleached aged bones, is the aspect of our ancient past, of our long dead beloved ancestors. I thought of my ancient kin, playing in the mores, and woods of England in the prime of the Celtic race. when we celebrate our ancestors, on Samhain, Hallows, El Dia de Muerte, the image of the skeleton is everywhere. Even the rock/blues group The Grateful Dead used dancing skeletons and the skull as part of thier groups imagery. The skelton for me could represent the Mother, Gaia, our foundation from where our primal DNA comes from. I know that when I intergrated the idea that the very dirt I am walking on is the dust of others bones, the remains of other life forces, my perception of Death shifted from one of uncertainty to clarity. I knew my place. The skelton can represent so much to us, deep mystery, primal state of being, ancestors. The skelton could also represent the Father possibly, an aspect of the manifestion of energy into matter. I am not so sure about this, and would love any other ideas on this. They have no need to eat, nor sleep so they are always present, never taking a break to take care of mundane physical needs, they have no responsiblitiy, yet do have allegences (ie the "armies" of skeltons played out in popular cultures remditions of folklore/mythology, "Army of Darkness" "The Lord of the Rings" "Scorpion King"). Fears of skeltons and bones are very common. There is a woman in my Tarot study group who has told me my Jack Skellington sweater makes her uncomforable! I think that for some people they represent aspects of thier being whihc they are in denial of, the shadow side and it ca be a life work to resolve this fear. I know that when I was a child to think that I had a skelton inside my soft pretty exterior, I was pretty upset.

The zombie archtype for me personally much more frightening, at least now. To me it is an aspect which is immenately possible. Zombies are fleshy, rotting, dead humaniod like entites. They typically are slow (or at least had been portraited so until the last few zombie films, in which they RAN -very unsettling and uncharateristic). They are a shell or apparation of what used to a vibrant life force. It can be postulated that zombies are a form of vampire, in that they need to consume life force energies, (except that they supposedly love brains, instead of blood:) The zombie sits much closer to us on the evolutionary time line, where as skeltons are our ancient ones, our zombies are ususally our direct family/friends, our nuclear families and communities. They represent us, our generation and what we are and have become, by choice or circumstance. I see zombies as the eternal Child, albiet a twisted, deformed child.. Zombies are our sleeping selves, the parts of us that do not participate in responsible behavior, that just amble along, doing nothin to improve themselves or the world around them. Like a child they have no responisiblity, and have to rely on others. They are a product, a combination of forces, choices, circumstances. Zombies terrify us because, well we could slip up at any moment and get bitten and become one our selves. We cant become a skeleton overnight in most circumstances. The archetype of Zombie is actually not new, as it was inferred in the bible teachings about revelations and the end of time, apocolypse. Most religious paths speak of people as sheep, as asleep, unenlightened, and these would be aspects of zombie. In dealing with my childs fear of zombies, I have tried to relate to him how maing healthy, positive choices enlivens us, gives us energy on different levels, and how being responsible and disciplined is sort of like getting a zombie innuculation, they cannot harm you unless you allow it, dont allow it by being dilligent, persistant, healthy, and dissapplined.

I am evloving my perception of the Alien archtype. To be truthful I sort of blocked out of my schooling any ideas of them until just recently. My mother once told me that she was taught human see energies in forms that they are capable of seeing. She shared that she believed that many of the Sidhe, Faerie, and Magickal creatures we know of are the same elementals that have allways been on Gaia, just taking forms that humans are capable of seeing, and that the Aliens are just another aspect of the Earth energies changing forms. I sat with that perception for many years, until I recently discovered the teachings of Melchiezidek, and a few others (Christopher Penzak (sp?) had an interesting take as well) who have given me much to think about. But inrelation to my boogie trinity idea I see Aliens as the Father, as the starseed, the giver of life. I have been taught that we are all Stars, that everything starts out as stardust and from that dust we materialize through electomagnetic forces (and others) to coalese into form. The ALien speaks to us of what we can aspire to become, our highest selves. Many teachings share that all entities that we encounter, be it Gods, Demi-Gods, Demons, Spirits, Faerie, Angels, ect are simply ourselves, at a higher vibrational rate, reaching through time and space to aid us. I know I have thought about going back in time to my teenage years and smacking myself upside the head:). Aliens to us, are unknown unimaginable, and therefore very frightening.

I invite you to think about Trinities, look for them in your world and see what it could have to share with you. I found it very intersting to think of how our culture has these boogies and monsters and what they can teach us.

"A skull is basically the underlying form of a face without the variation of features. I think what happens when we look at a skull is that our brain see's the fundemental face it's been hardwired to look for but without any of the variation that the flesh provides and so part of it's 'search and identify' routine is frustrated, leading to things arising from the subconscious. Therefore a skull is a type of 'prime archetype' because of the hardwiring, and also a portal to the subconscious."

Me and Alrah were just talking about the Dead, and when she wrote that stuff about skull archetypes, I had an epiphany: Steal Your Face! The Dead are much deeper than most understand; much of their material has veiled occult references and pertains to beatific experience. The Steal Your Face represents the subconscious element that the band was able to activate through a complex mixture of sound, rythmn, and meaning--hence the religious element that revolves ever around them.

    Dear Alrah,

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this! I have been briefly talking to my son about these ideas and it seems like he maybe making a break through in his fears of zombies!! I am fascinated by this whole idea of threatening body language, as it is something I had little considered before. I had read in some books about female neur-processing, it spoke stronly of how little baby girls prefer symatry, esp in faces. In fact our desire for symatry and balance and harmony is our driving force. I appreciate your insight into these archtypes, and have had fun reflecting on its implactions in my own life. (I spent many hours as a child in hospitals, nursing, homes and hospice and can relate to theese archtypes!).

One of the things I miss most in my life is the Tribe that was the Grateful Dead. Jerry was a prophet in his own right, and whist The Other Ones still play, it isnt the same. There was nothing like a Dead show. I just thought of another great trinity Jerry, Bob and Phil!! Phil would be the Mother (the bass) Bobby would be the Father (lead guitar) and Jerry would be the Child!!

Sorry, I now have to go dig out my whirling dervice dancing outfit and put rainbows in my hair.....

You can also think of it as this formula: 1 + 1 = 3, where two single elements combine to create a third. This is a fundamental Qabalistic concept that has great bearing on artistic matters.

An example: an artist, or one who is gifted with the art of creation, never works singly. They always have recourse to a muse, which acts as source of inspiration. The artist then gestates the impressions created by this muse, and translates them into form. This end result is the Child, or Work of Art.

Interesting, eh? We see this in all great works of art: the artist is inpired by the beloved, and translates this inspiration into form. Thus art is a perfect mirror and illustration of motherhood, and is made in pairs. To use the Dead as an example, there is the Weir/Barlow relationship, and Hunter/Garcia--and in each case, one inspired, and one gestated. This relationship is by no means confined to members of different sexes, or even species. The muse can be an ideal, concept, feeling--any object of devotion. Thus we see Lewis Carrol inspired to write the excellent Alice books by a little girl. Or Chopin inspired to his Polonaises by thoughts of his home country.

The tables in 777 and the Book of Thoth give excelllent examples of Trinity-based relationships.

And there are the Trigrams of the I Ching, but we won't go into that right now. 😀
Just some things I've been musing on.
