Feast of St. Eva
-
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Tomorrow is the date I have proclaimed The Feast of St. Eva, honoring Eva von Buttlar. If you are not familiar with her, I recommend you take this occassion to read up on her a bit. Unfortunately, this is a little hard, because, even on the Internet, there is very little about her in English. (If you Google her, you'll get a link to the German version of Wikipedia - and putting that page through a translator doesn't yield the most comprehensible text.)
Basically, she was a Gnostic tantrika in Europe in the late 17th and early 18th Centuries who proclaimed herself the Second Eve in exactly the same sense that Christ was held to be the Second Adam. Here are a few minor links:

Eva Margaretha von Buttlar(22 June 1670 - 27 April 1721) was a mystic-libertin sectarian and the eponym for a group known as Buttlarsche Rotte (Buttlarian gang).Primarily a damsel in Eisenach she break up with her husband the count tutor Jean de Vèsias after conversion, to affiliate a separatist community. Together with Justus Gottfried Winter a theology student and Johann Georg Appenfeller a medical student, she founded a philadelphical society in Allendorf called the "Christliche und Philadelpische Sozietät" (Christian and Philadelphical Society). this society later had about 70 members and proclaimed the dawn of the millenial empire. After the pietistscommand (assembly ban for separatistical societies) of Karl von Hessen-Kassel the landlord, they moved from Allendorf to Glashütte and later to Saßmannshausen near Lassphe in the shire of Wittgenstein.
The Society was declined by differnt Pietists like Spener and Francke and ohter separatistical Societies. In November 1704 the Society was arrested for fornication, blasphemy, abortion and double infant murder. They could escape in march 1705 und fled from Castle Wittgenstein.
On 3 November 1705 Winter announced Eva to be the fancée of the holy spirit and Appenfeller to be God's son. 1706 the activities of the society reached at its last peak in Lüdge near Pyrmont. Again driven by court aware they moved to Altona, Butllar now married to Appenfeller, where the society caused no more offense. 1713 she gave birth to her only child, a son desicnated as the Messiah. After her death in April 1721 the Society still continued, but their trail get lost.
Buttlar agreed with the refusal of ecclesiasticism and any religious restriction made by philadelphian groups and the contempt of worship and sacrament made by separatistical groups.
Everything else the society practiced is only to be summarized under the generic term of secterian-sexual libertin, espacially the socities idiosyncratic interpretation of the Sophia-Speculation and the myth of the androgynous primeval man. With Winter being the "Godfather" and Appenfeller being the "Son" she allegorized the visible "heavenly trinity", her being the "heavenly Sophia".
In a very "practical application" of the mystical idea of the marriage of the spiritual man with the heavenly Sophia developed by Jakob Böhme and especially by Johann Georg Gichtel, was the physical union with her, "Mother Eve" as the "Pool of Bethesda" carried out, and restored the androgynous "creation condition".
The "carnal intercourse as something sacred" (Winter considered) and thus made binding on the members of the "gang" for the practice of faith.

Thank you very much for the translation:)
History is written by the victorious and I do wonder just what exactly went on to bring the courts to charge a whole organization.
She sure seems like a Grand Lady to me.
I will bake a nice german chocolate cake in her honor.....seems fitting -
Thanks, 995!

Shalom Fratres et Sorores, 93,
You're welcome.
It wasn't really hard work, it was more kind of a practice to improve my english skills
As a german with an interest in thelemic studies it is "daily" business to translate english texts to german, though it was new to do it the other way.
