One in the eye

An interesting, if slightly disturbing occurrence during a short meditation, that I thought I'd share.
I was using the Tattwa Apas, (a silver crescent) an after staring at it for some 5 minutes I closed my eyes and let the mind do what it would with the afterimage.
After a while it was as if I was at the bottom of a well looking up at the sky with a lid partially covering the top of the well, making a crescent of light, a head appeared in the light, I could not see the face, then the person spat down into my face before closing the lid and sealing me in the well.
I'm not sure if this is anything important, but I found it interesting.

Whether you intended it or not, it sounds like a classic bit of skrying. Obviously, the symbol you are exploring is the water tattwa. Everything you describe is consistent with the water element.
I'm not surprised you had a negative experience, my experiences with the water tattwa are that they tend to darker, more negative images. You might try combining this sort of thing with the pentagram ritual, maybe get beyond some of the ruder levels.
But other than that I would feel pretty good about myself for having gotten somewhere 'interesting.' If you wanted to explore this further you might try using the sub elements for water and see how they are different: earth of water, air of water, fire of water, and spirit of water.

I know that using the tattwa's as astral doorways has been dealt with in many books since, but one of the first that I am aware, if not the first, and one of the best imho is Regardie's The Golden Dawn, Volume Four.
You may already be familiar with this instruction, but just in case you are not. It's my opinion that it is worth checking out because it is probably an original source for this sort of practice among magicians, as well as being a fairly complete, and helpful guide...
Have fun!

well, I tried it again last night, this time with LBRP to begin with, this time no wells or spitting people, but I nearly fell asleep and awoke with a jump and the Leonard Cohen song: "The Gipsy wife" in my inner ear.
One other thing, later that evening I was meditating just before midnight and the vision of a big crab-claw came into view and wanted me to shake it, I was about to when I remembered something about it and shouted "Osiris is a black God!" and flung a banishing pentagram at it.
So, looks like I've come across a nice little seam of exploration to occupy myself for a while.
