Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

So, my first topic, I guess, besides my introduction. And it's a question. 😀

I think anyone able to answer would have guessed what this is about just with the title, but anyway... What's the deal with these words ("Liberty, Power, Destiny", "Life, Putrefaction, Death" etc.) on the Oath of a Probationer? Now, of course I do know their meaning, but what's their relevance there? That's even if it can be explained at all. They do resonate with me in a way it's hard to explain, but I was wondering if there was any specific intent on putting them there in the first place. Also, why are they only on the Probationer Oath?

    That's it.

Love is the law, love under will.

Traditionally, the letters of Tetragrammaton mark the four corners of a warrant in the same arrangement as on the pentagram. (Cf. Atu XXI, The Universe, for example.)

That's what's happening here. The four corners are the four Kerubs in the same order. Each has a higher, medium, and lower expression of the corresponding element. The initials L, P, D mark each set - and it's a whole other thing that I'm not going into! - but it's a formula AC had been working with for years.

Thus, "Power" (the median principle) expresses itself in the highest as "Liberty" and, at its lowet, as "Destiny" (which is used here in the antiquated sense of "being an effect, not a cause - being on the receiving end of Power). Etc.

OMG. That's awesome. I already had thought about each set being levels of expression. Just was not aware of the symbolism. Really interesting.

    Thank you, sir!

    93,

Although I generally think the book isn't great, Gunther's book deals with this LPD whatnot in one of the chapters, which may be of interest to you.
