    LUXURY
    (Previously called, “Blended Pleasure.”)
    Four of Cups

Meditation Pattern: Place Atu II, The Priestess, and Atu VII, The Chariot, side-by-side, with the 4 of Cups above them.

Traditional Description: Four cups, the upper two overflowing into the lower two (which do not overflow). A lotus stem ascends, bearing one flower at the top of the card, from which water flows into the two upper cups. From the center, two lotus leaves pass right and left, making a cross between the four cups. Above and below are the glyphs of Luna and Cancer for the Decanate.

Chesed of Water: Luxury, leisure, an abundance of pleasure. Pleasure that is ordered, stabilized. Receiving pleasure or kindness from others, but some discomfort therewith. Laziness, dispersion, excess, negligence; loss of impulse from over-satisfaction. Philosophy, contemplation, introspection. Devotion (of all kinds, including spiritual devotion).

Luna/Cancer: Success or pleasure fulfilled. Strong feeling nature. A stationary period in happiness, which may, or may not, continue. It does not mean love and marriage so much as the Three of Cups. It is too passive a symbol to represent perfectly complete happiness. Swiftness, hunting, pursuing. If ill-dignified: acquisition by contention; injustice; drawbacks or dissatisfaction regarding pleasure is implied.

Jupiter + Luna: Happiness, kindness, generosity, sociability, popularity, pleasure, rich living, noblesse oblige. Indifference, negligence, jadedness, lazy justice, opportunism.

    • Gimel+Chet: the ascent of Spirit into the elements that form the Water of Life; benevolent and graceful influence of the protecting Mother, she influences and changes through her Acceptance.
    • Water of Chesed, Moon aspect of Cancer: Rulership of Water…. the Female Principle as a mighty Mother Queen on Her throne; she accepts and at the same time she reflects, thus she nurtures.
Why Luxury? (Perhaps from this shining, illuminating character of the enthroned Mother/Water principle…?)

    • Tending to a closed, stagnant, state – there is no water pouring out of the lower Cups; but it has to pour over, sooner or later… or not – if the lower Cups keep absorbing it all, sort of like a Black Hole.
    • To swallow, to devour, to engulf… ability to amass, accumulate …
    • A closed system of energy-circulation, ecosystem (Earth with its atmosphere for example –the water circulates, but it total amount stays the same).

    • Power to halt/temporarily stop the flow of the water (like a dam); so it gets enormous potential power.
    • Creating the “places of power” (this can be voluntarily done with the flow of energy in own being); Chakras; beginning of the idea of Temple; milk in female breasts (it is there to feed, and is being produced as long as the child sucks it).
    • To feed, to protect.
    • Regarding Initiation, it seems that the function of this “halt” is for the energy to flow further with enormous power, thus making the transformation of the whole being (whose energy it is) possible.

    Day one:
Catering to the senses, sumptuousness, partaking in plenty, refined taste, bourgeois, leisure time, poetic inclinations, deep spiritual stirrings

    Day two:
short lived lofty emotional states, going with the flow, blissfully ignorant, being laid back and letting things take their course, "do me" attitude, attention whoring, being set up to receive the most out of something

    Day three:
I can't seem to get into this card because it seems so loosy - goosey, short-lived regular bouts of happiness and joy, stay-cations, rest & relaxation, deferment, "subliminal disses", passive-aggression, free loading, manipulation, joy before disappointment.
