The next Aeon

There's an obscure, long footnote in Magick (the blue brick edition) that's always puzzled me. It has to do with something Crowley wrote in "On the Reception of the Book of the Law", which is in appendix IX of the afrementioned work. I here quote from it:
I may now point out that the reign of the Crowned and Conquering Child is limited in time by The Book of the Law itself. We learn, III:34, that Horus will be in his turn succeeded by Thmaist, [footnote 608] the Double-Wanded One, She who shall bring the Candidate to full initiation, and through(sic) we know little of Her peculiar characteristics, we know at least that Her name is Justice.
As I mentioned, the footnote is quite long, dealing largely Coptic Qabalah (is there really such a thing?), but the main point of it is:
In his [Crowley's] New Comment he added that "the 'double-wanded one' is 'Thmaist of dual form as Thmais and Thmait,' from whom the Greeks derived their Themis, goddess of Justice...Thmaist is the Hegemon [Old Aeon, I assume], who bears the mitre headed sceptre."
Outside of this one reference, I haven't been able to find anything about Thmaist. Does any one know of anything else? Are there references to Her from antiquity? Images?

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Read the Golden Dawn Z papers - I forget if it's in Z-1 or Z-2.
For all intents and purposes, he means Maat, whether kept Egyptianized or Hellenized.
The theory is this: The natural stations in a temple of the mysteries are held or defined by divine archetypes. Human officers rotate through these stations in sequence, from Equinox to Equinox (provided only that they hold the proper grade). But at a "Great Equinox" - a so-called Equinox of the Gods at the transition of the Aeons - the archetypes themselves "rotate through the chairs."
Thus, Horus, the Hiereus of the Osiris Aeon, advanced to Hierophant, the next chair. Concurrently, Maat, who was Hegemon in the Osiris Aeon (and whose mitre-headed scepter designated her "the double-wanded one") has now advanced to Hiereus and, therefore, is the heir apparent to the Hierophant's throne.

i believe i have said this a few times in a few places and for some reason i often feel like i'm beating a drum to a song i'm playing all by myself in my own head (maybe i am hehehehe ) BUT
considering that maat is not technically one of the gods, but a divine PRINCIPLE of the universe, i have not necessarily conceded to agreeing with those folks out there who often talk about maat being a future aeon flowing backwards into time coinciding with this aeon.
i suggest re-reading chapt 125 of the egyptian book of the dead and meditating upon the AEON card.
maat is also known as "the two truths" therefore she has two feathers upon her head; one time in a mystical vision she told me directly that she was BOTH the "hall of justice" as well as the "hall of truth" (thus being two) and if you read a few of the egyptian prayers that are out there, there usually is some quotation of "living in maat, speaking truth" etc.
very important. i would suggest that the whole of the mysteries might be caught up in just some part of this idea. not that i really KNOW that, but that's my guess.

...but isn't that what all the gods are?
"i have not necessarily conceded to agreeing with those folks out there who often talk about maat being a future aeon flowing backwards into time coinciding with this aeon."
I've never agreed with them at all.

I tend to think that perhaps it has not so much to do with the number of the day as one's own position in the soul's advancement towards the light.
We're living it and being it and some will go fast and some will go slow.
The gross must pass through fire, etc.
So upon receiving the truth, we then get to evolve and start living it.
How do you measure success? "...let not one know well the other!"
Not to argue against fine intellectualism or ego-stroking mental masturbation, but I am a simple lover. The KISS principle applies and the law is for ALL so...
Perhaps we don't really need to cling to all the symbols and numbers and dicky-do dances when we start to grasp what is behind it and put it into practice in our daily lives from moment to moment in all things.
Again I am free to admit I am odd, but liber al alone was enough for me and 20 years on with no other resource or discipline things still click in to place at odd moments for odd reasons. Everyone is different.
My mind is in the gutter but my heart is in the right place! laugh

"if the ritual be not ever unto me"
"Also I have a secret glory for them that love me."

Doesn't your definition of Maat apply to all the gods?
I've never heard that about Maat's aeon flowing backward into this one. That's whacked. My understanding of "Aeon" is that it is basically a calendar by which we mark human evolution. Unless I'm way off base with that, the idea of flowing backward just doesn't make any sense.

you may wish to go here for more info. about those who are ushering in the double current of Horus AND Maat;
on this site you will also find the Holy Book which is said to be a channeling of the words of Maat. This took place in the 1970.s
