Choosing an AA Lineage
-
Does anyone have any advice for choosing an AA lineage to which to apply? I don't mean criticisms of or recommendations for any particular lineage. I mean things like particular questions a person should ask hirself or people of that lineage before applying, warning signs, etc. Also, any personal work you suggest people do before applying or deciding to apply.
Edit: Obviously I've already done much reflection and investigation myself. In case it sounded like I was asking for a handout...

The most important item for me was that one or more poeple in the Lineage had worked their way "step by step" through the Grade of 5=6 ( within ) and had such confirmed by those who admitted them. The main reason this is important to me is so that I could have some assurance that they were testing me adequately for each Grade.
Of course if there was some ability to trace themselves to the Master T. then so much the better

Thanks for suggestion. I had thought sort of along those lines, but hadn't clarified it as clearly as that. But just to make sure I know what you mean...
By step-by-step, do you mean as opposed to taking an oath and jumping several grades or else claiming grades based on self-initiation, but outside of the clear testing context of a lineage?
I can identify some folk who, to all appearences, have attained grades "step-by-step" by some of the biographies and lineage histories publicly available. I suppose you mean do this sort of research. Unfortunately, some lineages keep things more secret than others.

Hi Sasha - Yes, that is pretty much what I meant

There were two original "lineages":
- From Edward Alexander Crowley
- From George Cecil Jones
Jones has left from the Order, so, there is only Crowley's lineage. I think that is stupid to blather about Meral's lineage, Motta's lineage, Little John's lineage, etc.
My own opinion.

Actually, Crowley continued to list Jones as Praemonstrator until the end. (Well, at the very least, Crowley listed him as Praemonstrator in formal documents released as late as 1936, and never listed anyone else in that office.) Since Jones outlived Crowley by half a dozen years, he was actually the surviving officer.
I don't, however, think, this means much in practice so far as lineages go. I have no information (and have seen no claims) of his admitting Probationers subsequent to Crowley's death. But I thought I'd correct the statement that Cecil Jones (not to be confused with C.S. Jones) left the Order.
