93 Million Miles
-
Is it a coincidence that the Sun is 93 million miles from the Earth? Are there any esoteric and/or Thelemic comprehensions of this? Or any other thoughts? I know the Sun represents Osirian energies, but why the 93 for the Sun? Or is it just the coincidence?

93,
Its a coincidence.
Please think about for a moment - its, what, 93 million MILES from the Sun? How many meters is it from the sun? How was a mile's length first computed? Miles & feet are arbitrary lengths of convenience and there happen ot be 93 million of them in between us and the Sun. A nice thing to think about, but coincidence. Anyone who says otherwise is most likely full of hot air-superstition. Feel free to pontificate otherwise.

Aside from the fact that everything is coincidence (which just means that things happen at the same time)...
No, I don't think so at all. Consider that Liber Legis was received by an Englishman in 1904, and that he had (only a few days earlier) told that he was to start a new solar religion.
Simon Newcomb's methodology for refining the distance measurementhad only been succesfully applied (and the results published) the year before, in 1903 (based on the Eros near-earth pass of 1900-1901). It was pretty big news for 1903!
So yeah, I trhink that Englishman was all about those 93 million miles.

This is a reference to AL I:4, if I am not mistaken anyways... Very akin to Crowley's comment on AL I:4 as printed in "The Law Is For All." You are right about the superstition, at least as far as my limited knowledge comprehends. I shall leave the pontification to others more suited toward such. Thank you for your response IAO131.

Now the only puzzle is to figure out who that Englishman was. Hmmm...
: PMy question came up as a result of discussing various phenomena of the sky with a colleague of mine. Any time I hear the number 93 my attention dilates itself a little more than is usual, and so my friend saying the distance of the Sun to the Earth triggered a slight ripple in my curiosity. Probably no more than a temporary case of apophenia.
Thanks for your response.

How far is the Sun from the Earth?
Asked the young boy
It is as far as the reaches of your Love, replied the sage.
How far is that?
(Another question from the boy)
As far as your Will stretches ( once again, the sage)
The boy understood and grew wise
Though he knew not how far the Sun was from the Earth
Thus did he become a man -
"Miles & feet are arbitrary lengths of convenience and there happen ot be 93 million of them in between us and the Sun."
Actually, feet are not arbitrary, it is based on the human foot. I once read in a book about the fibonacci code that there is all this coincidence in nature. "Coincidence" does not equal "arbitrary". I think there is some other significance to the mile-I don't remember now. Anyone elso know?

93,
The imperial measure foot was based on the supposed length of the feet of one of the English Plantagenet kings - Edward III, if I recall correctly. He was a very rare size for his day and age. Nobody else even today, other than a few basketball players, has 12-inch feet.
So, it is quite an arbitrary measure, and one not matched in non-European cultures.

I was always under the impression that the Fibonacci pattern was a predictable sequence, even in regards to its manifestations in nature, and thus would be the opposite of coincidence, as I understand the word anyways: a phenomenon which occurs without apparent causation (that's the superficial meaning anyways, Mr. Eshelman's definition is much "deeper"). Alright, I painted the bulls-eye target, fire away.

Co-incidence=same point; therefor anything that happens at the same point/same place is "coincidental", roughly speaking.
The modern English word, "coincidental" is one of these words that has false assumptions , i.e. non-truths built into it. The way the term is loosely defined is, "two things that happen to occur at the point, either in time or space with no causal relationship."
I believe that both theories of Quabalah and quantum mechanics negate that assumption. Every thing has a cause, and there is no such thing as space or time, only time-space.
Just some food for thought.

Yay! An amazingly incredible synchronicity!
No. It's just apophenia.
...
They are opposite interpretations rooted in personal opinion.
One will shoot you up into space, cadet. The other will chain you to matter.
Try not to get carried away too far by either one.
...
For me, a really cool synchronicity.
There, I have pontificated otherwise.

To what end?

I donβt know.
I guess as a balance to abusive, one-sided thinking.
It irks me.

From me? C'mon, spill it! Now!

I'm kidding, Hermitas. I like you.

Nah... The guy you quoted.
I don't mind strict materialists until they start calling me fruitcakes.

I mean, I think it's a cool synchronicity. It's just damn cool.
But it's not even really 93 million. It's 92.96 million.
But whatever.
I'm not ready to pick up the sword about it anymore.
