"Is it true that it can cause catatonia?
If so...how long does the catatonic state last?I don't mean an intended catatonia... I mean a complete takeover.
Any information regarding this would be helpful. "
it can cause quite a few side effects that i know of, catatonia is the firt ive heard of it, but also raising such a force threw yourself 'can' cause death. but i wouldnt realy worry about it, such things dont really happen often that i know of.
but in any case, a quick search on google produced this, and it might have whatever your looking for.

It doesn't necessarily cause catatonia, just ego-death. From a psychological standpoint this may be perceived as catatonia, but it's really just a symptom of purification, like metal being purified by fire. Those who are more attached to their mundane "self" may have trouble if they manage to activate the kundalini energy prematurely--but this is rare.

I had a very dramatic kundalini awakening yesterday. It lasted several minutes, during which I was pretty much immobilized as intense energy formed in my sacram, slowly climbed my back, and burst through my crown chakra, forcing my head back, and causing me to weep spontaneously for several minutes.
My back's sore today, like I've got a body-ache/flu, and I've been trembling intermittently since yesterday, buzzing with energy. I had to use a tennis ball on the floor today to work out a bunch of knotted muscles in my back that started really hurting...
Any advice? I've been sticking to just journaling, dream analysis, and reading Jung, and figure I should continue to avoid any active magick, pranayama, psychedelics, energy work or the like, and just passively listen to my body.

I think "child posture" would be very helpful for your back, use pillows under your torso and head and try to expand your sacral and pelvis. laying on your back, slowly bring one knee up and hug towards your chest, and then kindly cross it over your torso into a light spinal twist (repeat on opposite side, and then hug both knees to chest, gently rocking from side to side). Depending on your size a nice soak in a tub (obviously if you are 6 feet tall and al scrunched up in the tub....), or if at all possible a hot tub. I have heard many people equate Kundalini as a rebirthing, so a body of water would be welcomed.
Eat very lightly fresh and raw, and if you kow your dosha stick to those foods. Be gentle to your body, LISTEN to what it tell you it needs. Drink plenty of water and herbal tea and stay away from sugars and caffine (even fruit for a while).
I always think some practical grounding work is needed after these sort of energy bursts. Go plant a tree, some flowers, build a fire, go to the beach, connect to nature and Gaia and BE thankful, do some act of service for your fellow Brothers and Sisters. Fill your self from the cup of love and drink deep, you have been blessed, share those feelings.
While I also do not think any Pranayama should be done, be mindful of your breathing, breathe deep and slow as if you are drinking in the lilfe giving prana right out of the air.

biologyofkundalini.com/article.php?story=TheDownsideofBli"I found this quote from the above article very interesting,
"It is clear that perpetual stress and its effects on the body, mind and behavior creates a vicious cycle of perpetual stress. By destroying the neurological hardware for visionary and psychic foresight and illumination, stress neuters our potential for an inspired life and right livelihood. This brain damage produced by stress chemistry is one of the primary reasons for the poverty trap as well. In this way we are then likely to be caught in a trap of perpetual stress because we then have to survive in a servile, subsistence or flatland-conformist way...which is "stressful," thus locking us into an endless recurring feedback loop of stress, impotency and poverty."
Also,
"I wrote elsewhere in the book that fasting during an awakening is not a good idea because of kundalini’s huge energy demand, and because the tissues need protection by plentiful antioxidants. Releasing toxins into the system when the immune system is already compromised, and when ones antioxidant reserves are already being used to the full is not a good idea. However fasting after an awakening, especially at some point during the exhaustion phase might be absolutely essential to reestablish physiological function and hence higher emotional, mental and behavioral performance. To overcome anhedonia, acedia and a general dissociation from life we may need to do an extensive fast or series of fasts to reinstate our neurotransmitter and hormone receptors."
I have been feeling that very same desire to fast, but my conscious mind kept telling myself that fasting is extreme, not necessary etc. Now, I have the rationale to allow myself to follow my intuition. (It makes me wonder what other 'suggestions' from my intuitions that I'm ignoring.)

I've heard a few people recommend balanced downward meditation. i.e. breathe in through nose while focusing on the crown chakra and out through mouth while visualizing water or light pouring downward from the crown and through your body, out of your toes and finger tips. Somewhere around 8 seconds in and 8 out works well for me. Stay away from upward meditation for awhile.
Gopi Krishna's book, Kundalini: The Evolutionary Energy in Man may be a good read for you as well.

The hormones produced while we are under stress have been linked to a host of addictions, namely alcholism, (which is a form of sugar addiction, which is an issue of blood sugar levels).

The demons of yester year appear to be the chemical reactions with in our own body, the hormones we have evolved (?) to produce to help keep us alive, our glands could be seen as Gods ruling over us!
It is in our best interest IMO to learn all we can about what is going on with in our body. I personally have found in the past few years the study of my own biology most insightful into the mysteries of occultism. I have been blown away by what is going on with in me, motivating me, unfolding with in me, and my two little children!
One of the best sources I have found for information is Dr. Andrew Weil. His resource Guide to Optimal Health is a fantastic start, and an awsome source for reinforcement. I realize he is seen as a "product" by many but his teachings are extremely important.
