Asana and Tarot
-
I am part of a tarot study group and was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a condensed table or graph of correspondences between asana postures and specific tarot cards. I am pretty sure this has allready been tabulated somewhere, I just have no clue where. I plan on teaching the postures and hopefully a mantra (if possible) during classes. This month we are covering the 2's, so I would like to know the five postures for the 2's and create a little flow or meditation. We are also asked to share songs that make us think of 2's, as well as characters from a fovorite story. So any ideas on those as well would be greatly appreciated, and passed on to the group.
thanks

"(...thinks edwards told me this... nebiroth, no.. damn what is the word?)."
Nethiboth. The singular verb is Nethibah.
I've never heard of assigning asanas to the Nethiboth. You might find the same asana worked for you in a number of different instances. And we're advised to find the asana that works for us and go with that, not to insist on one position regardless.

Agreeing with all of the above, more or less.
However, if you still want to pursue it: The approach I'd recommend is to replicate the posture of the main figure on the card.

This is a link to a deck that uses the postures...
There are a million and one tarot decks on the market...
I thought that I had read somewhere a path working of tarot and asana.
I have no idea what Nethiboth means so I have a new word to learn.....thanks anyways

Veronica, 93,
Alexander Kiy's own website - www.heptahedron.org - is not accessible. I got a page saying he'd not renewed the domain.
Nothing wrong with experimenting with his system if you can locate it, but Tarot can be the most abused thing in esotericism after the Zodiac. Everyone hitches their own wagon onto it, regardless of their depth of understanding. Also, I don't see anywhere that he's simpatico with Hermetic ideas, only with yoga.
In my experience, there's syncretism, then there's goulash. Caveat emptor.

Well I have contacted Alexander Kiy and asked him directly about this deck, as it appears he may have read Crowley's book 4? I will wait to see what he says back regarding my direct questions.
While I am a housewife, I certainly do not play with the cards so see my fate. I dont need cards for that. I use my tarot card for personal exploration, transformation and spellwork/ritual.
what lead me to this idea that the tarot and the asana's may have correspondeces was that while I was doing my yoga practice, ( I teach beginner yoga, and have studied the asana's for almost 5 years) I was in half moon balance and thought that the internal physical as well as the mental aspect of my being seemed to be in a very focused and persice manifestion, while when I was doing Tree my being was also very percise, specificaly different though.
So as I was upside down, I wondered if as a healer, I could possible use the tarot spread to pinpoint ailments of people, to find yoga postures that could help people heal/overcome/create/become....
I had my teacher (who teaches Jewish mystism) over for tea and we looked at the brief pdf file of the Kiy cards. Being an Aries, she asked me what card was for Aries, and when we looked at the Emperor, it showed the handstand asana. She has been for month telling me that she wanted me to teach her how to hang upside down, (she wants to do handstand but isnt physically there) that she felt she needed it, that is would be natural for her.I have only read 3 or 4 Crowley books, and have limited understannding of his whole teachings. I also have a limited understanging of yoga, but I have studied the Iyengar School of Yoga, as well as Ashtanga, Vinyasa. I am fortunate in that my two older sisters are adepts, one in yoga and the other Tarot, and my own teacher is not only a Dr. but a Rev. so I have some good IRL ladies to keep my feet on the ground and my head out of the clouds:)
I appreciate your comments very much.

93 Alrah!
I chuckled to myself as I read your words......."Just a housewife." I have found in my musings that there is apparently nothing "just" about being a housewife. I just finished dong the dishes, when its time to make the next meal....I Just mopped the floor when my muddy footed pack comes in...lol. Yet I know that life is fair, and just so I just smile and do it again...and again....and again.....
My tax accountant list my profession as a domestic engineer:) I rather like the title domestic goddess.....for an engineer seems a little narrow minded.
So while I will briefly pose up on your pedestal, I reach my hand out to you to bring you my side, for no matter how we live our lives, earn our keep, ect....we all are so much more then just anything:)
I appreciate the heads up about Master Gurdijeff. I actually have had 3 other references to him in the past month or so, I guess the Cosmos is telling me something. I am very interested in exploring any physical activity to facilitate healing/wholeness. I have used dance myself to bring about change in my life, and know of many tribal dances used for healing as well.
In my training, I learned that memories are stored in muscle and that my working the muscles in a particlur way we can release and restore our being. I think that a majority of inactive people are intimated by excersize, suffering low esteem, and that simple movement like yoga, dance, martial arts, walking are non treatening and almost do not seem like a work out. While massage has a lot to offer theraputically, it is not something you do to yourself, but that which is done to you. Plus while I have studdied massage therapy I know that it is not for me.
I appreciate your advice and encouragement very much, thank you.
