A.'.A.'. Student Grade Question.
-
I've read from several sources what the reading materials for the student is before graduating to the probationer grade.
I've read all the material listed on outercol.org
Except for the Equinox Vol 1. According to that site I am supposed to read No.1-10.Other sources I've read say I must simply have The Equinox as a reference.
Am I supposed to read the ENTIRE Equinox Vol I before I can move on to the next grade? So far I've finished No.1. That is a seriously big book, lol.
Or is it acceptable to continue reading this while doing other grade work?
I do intend to actively find a teacher as soon as I'm qualified to be a probationer. -
"":1h52it24]I've read all the material listed on outercol.org"
My answer won't have anything to do with whatever is on that site.
"Except for the Equinox Vol 1. According to that site I am supposed to read No.1-10. "
I would take it even further, but that's a good start. But not just read: If you are following the original Student curriculum, then you have to be ready to take examination on its contents.
"Am I supposed to read the ENTIRE Equinox Vol I before I can move on to the next grade? So far I've finished No.1. That is a seriously big book, lol."
It is the core library of what you apparently wish to spend the rest of your life doing. If the size puts you off, then quit now and don't bother.
"Or is it acceptable to continue reading this while doing other grade work?"
You apparently haven't read, or at least haven't understood, the basic definition of the Student grade from (coincidentally) The Equinox. Here it is:
...every person wishing to become a Probationer of A.'.A.'. must first pass three months as a Student of the Mysteries.
He must possess the following books: –
{a list is given which contains the whole of The Equinox and 13 other specific books}
An examination in these books will be made. The Student is expected to show a thorough acquaintance with them, but not necessarily to understand them in any deeper sense. On passing the examination he may be admitted to the grade of Probationer."
So, if the classic Student program is followed, one must do the following, in this sequence:
- Acquire all of the books on the list.
- Study them for at least 3 months.
- Apply for, receive, and pass examination in the material.
-
The size does not put me off. I was just under the impression I was expected to read it under 3 months.
I have been a student for more than three months already. I just have not finished The Equinox Vol 1 yet.So it is safe to proceed to probationer stage you say?

Ah. No. Not if the original plan is being followed. The rule is at least 3 months. You can take the rest of your life! Whatever you need to be ready for and pass examination.
Notice I'm answering this in terms of the original, classic Student program. The Student stage isn't really part of the A.'.A.'. system. It's a preliminary to the A.'.A.'.. So people can make it up more or less anyway they want. If you are working with someone who is making up different rules, then you have to ignore what I say and follow their rules.
"So it is safe to proceed to probationer stage you say?"
Safe? Not a matter of safety. And not something you can just do on your own. The question is, have you passed taken and passed examination? That will (or, at least, should) determine whether someone admits you as a Probationer.

Yes
