7 September (Spirit) Liber LXV, 5:60-63
-
60. O land beyond honey and spice and all perfection! I will dwell therein with my Lord for ever.
61. And the Lord Adonai delighteth in me, and I bear the Cup of His gladness unto the weary ones of the old grey land.
62. They that drink thereof are smitten of disease; the abomination hath hold upon them, and their torment is like the thick black smoke of the evil abode.
63. But the chosen ones drank thereof, and became even as my Lord, my beautiful, my desirable one. There is no wine like unto this wine. -
This bit from the Wake World seems relevant:
"You mustn't suppose the honeymoon is ever really over, because it just isn't. But he said to me: "Princess, you haven't been all over the Palace yet. Your special House is the Third, you know, because it's so convenient for the Second where I usually live. The King my Father lives in the First; he's never to be seen, you know He's very, very old nowadays; I an practically Regent of course. You must never forget that I am really He; only one generation back is not so far, and I entirely represent his thought. Soon," he whispered ever so softly, "you will be a mother; there will be a Fairy Prince again to run away with another pretty little Sleepy head. Then I saw that when Fairy Princes were really and truly married they became Fairy Kings; and that I was quite wrong ever to be ashamed of being only a little girl and afraid of spoiling his prospects, because really, you see, he could never become King and have a son, a Fairy Prince without me."
Giving the numbers a go:
60 = Samekh = Art. Verse 60 is talking about the life of an Adept - which is one of continuous Art.
I note that 61 = Ain and Ani (Not AND I) = here Crowley is saying that he himself (the I) is being the cup of understanding, but it is NOT "I" but Adonai which is the wine within the cup.
62 = Healing, to commit healing. And yet this verse seems the antithesis of healing... however, I remember my own initial dances with Crowley - urged to read his works, yet "smitten" by the vast Dis-ease which they created in me, and "torment" that not getting it caused. But I am a fool who persists in his folly...
63 = Tetragrammaton in Briah, Briah's "Secret Nature", Abaddon -> "Became even as my Lord" - > Adepts...

There is no wine like unto this wine.I am particularly fond of Marcuse's definition of revolutionary art: it's art that causes discontent. It doesn't do this by promoting simplistic messages—it's not propaganda. All it does is present a picture of a better life. The best art of this kind does not do this with pictures or content. It does it in terms of its process—how the at was made.
The exercise of art is an experience of freedom that the lives of very few people in this world can accommodate. Nevertheless, the awareness of the existence of people who enjoy this freedom makes the rest of humanity all the more aware of how their world is the old grey land.
Some will be able to open themselves to this bliss, other will not.
I realize for the first time how blatantly political this text is. It was written with the intention of fomenting spiritual revolution!

"if the aspirant knew at the beginning about all the torments and hells s/he would encounter on this Path of Initiation, s/he would probably give up immediately...
"63. But the chosen ones drank thereof, and became even as my Lord, my beautiful, my desirable one. There is no wine like unto this wine."
but those who do set for that road, and who do persist - guided by pure aspiration (=inner flame-Love for the Spirit) - they partake of such beauty and rapture that words can not describe. (the picture of "no wine like unto this wine" is used to portray that ecstasy)
