RUIN
Ten of SwordsMeditation Pattern: Place Atu XIX, The Sun, and Atu VI, The Lovers, side-by-side, with the 10 of Swords above them.
Traditional Description: Four pairs of swords, as in the preceding symbol, with the points falling away from each other. Two further swords are crossed in the center, as though their junction had disunited the others. No rose, either flower or bud, is shown. Above and below are the symbols of Sol and Gemini, representing the Decanate.
Malkuth of Air: Ruin, death, defeat, disruption; but, in spiritual matters, the end of delusion. Destruction at the end. Insubstantiality; ideas, dreams, or plans never rendered practical.
Sun/Gemini: Undisciplined, warring forces, complete failure. Disruption, disorder, and dispersal of the Sun’s harmonious and stable energy; damping down of the creative impulse; weakness, corruption, disintegration. Ruin of plans and projects; but (especially if well-dignified) with the implicit promise of some new dawn beyond the present circumstances. Disdain, insolence, and impertinence, yet mirth and jollity therewith. Loving to overthrow the happiness of others; gossip; given to much unprofitable speech, and many words. Yet clever and eloquent, according
to dignity.Malkuth + Sol: The end of delusion; a light cast upon the illusions of matter. Need for a sounder material orientation. The need for perseverance, endurance, practicality. Need for sense of practical reality, sense of form, and sense of humor.
-
- Thought-structures, the kingdom of intellect – the heart is destroyed; although this card is one of the Middle Pillar cards, there is no balance here; the swords cut and separate; this kind of Kingdom is unsustainable!
- Versatility, indecision, too many thoughts; there is no One enduring guiding Principle, One Idea that persists during long-period-of-time, hence: Ruin (BTW: the fact that Ten, as Complete manifestation, of Swords is called Ruin says a lot about the mind!)
- In practical material existence, mere intellectualizing is unfeasible.
- To analyze, and Rectificando as the essence of this.
- Individual differences between various human natures: every particular mind is oriented from the inside toward that to which his/her authentic nature is leading him/her (True Will); but these highest “Ideas” can not be “proven” nor actually in particularity “demonstrated” to another. (“I forbid argument. Conquer! That is enough.”)
- A curtain of thoughts and words – as some iron weaving – covers the view of the profane into the Mysteries; to go beyond it – there leads the Love-relationship of Human and God, there is the Heart girt with Serpent; on the outside: only forms, structures that can be measured and calculated, appearances mechanically ordered; but, they are destroyed or created by the from-the-inside-ruling Force of Pulsating Life (XIX), perceived only by Intuition (VI).
- Atheistic scientists; rigid logicians; formalists; people who believe in proofs and materialistic demonstrations; people to whom the laws of thought are the ultimate laws of life – if resistant to change, they become empty shells.
- Exclusiveness; closed mind; intellect for its own sake, set as the ruling principle (not seeing itself as Servant of Will); the pits of Because.
- Heart destroyed: to neglect the inner Sun, to become lost in duality and separation of material existence.
- The difference between experience and interpretation; confusing the map for the territory.
- Background color associations: war, belligerence; continual fight (crossing the swords) with someone or with oneself – this is intellect fully manifest!
- It seems that the children from ATU XIX are the pair on ATU VI; their basic driving principle is the same: to Play.
- Need for a Partner, for the Other embodied in a particular You, which is there as a playmate for the “I”; child-like orientation toward this (may be “good” or “bad” depending on overall personal maturity).
- Intellectual explorations; tendency to identify (and “label”) oneself with some particular set of ideas&words, disregarding all others.
- The thoughts are many, but the heart is one.
- I’m associated of a Dragon with many heads but essentially no Head (nb: Algol, and the Medusa myth); method: find the polarized factors in this Multitude; develop both sides of these polarities; wed them to each other.
