"My Identity in Christ"
-
93,
Hi guys, as part of a program in where I attend Christ based 12 step classes, I also attend this "Search for Significance" class (also Christ based) where they constantly refer to this My Identity in Christ Affirmation. I haven't found a thelemic version doing a quick google search, though I've found an old thread here where Mr. Eshelman translated the twelve steps for someone that has been an enormous help to me in this program.I would love and appreciate any ideas and comments to help make it more thelemic.
"My Identity In Christ
Because of Christ’s redemption,
I am a new creation of infinite worth.
I am deeply loved,
I am completely forgiven,
I am fully pleasing,
I am totally accepted by God,
I am absolutely complete in Christ.
When my performance reflects
My true identity in Christ,
That reflection is dynamically unique.
There has never been another person
Like me in the history of mankind,
Nor will there ever be.
God has made me an original,
One of a kind, really somebody!!" -
Emmanuel is usually translated, "God is with you." There might be a useful seed there. To take the cheese shredder to the rest <vbg>... totally off the cuff, almost no thought put into it, first reactions...

"Because of Christ’s redemption,"
Getting bought out of slavery (literal meaning, like redeeming a coupon) may not be the best start. You might want to take it in a more affirmative, self- (or at least Self-) originated way, e.g., "Dying daily," or, "As one who is nothing," or... so many things, depending on the level where you're working and what strikes you.
"I am a new creation of infinite worth."
I liked this on first impression. Below Tifereth, it might be close to perfect. However, above that, it perpetuates fictions of the outermost. In particular, it perpetuates judgments that are ultimately arbitrary. The "new creature" I like, though in some situations "new & self-created" might serve better. To get away from the judgment, a compromise might be to characterize yourself as "of pure gold," without attributing any particular value to the gold. (Off the cuff recommendations, remember.)
"I am deeply loved,"
Always a nice affirmation, useful when needed. But it's the passive side. What about, "I deeply love"?
"I am completely forgiven,"
From what? - This will require you to dig deep into the idea of what you might feel you need to be forgiven for, and what forgiveness would mean. For example, being newly (self- or other-) created, does this leave you free of karmic imbalances (or some particular set of them)? Or is the affirmation more to do with your position in not creating new imbalancing obligations (see the task of the Path of Lamed in One Star in Sight or my M&MAA)? Or something totally different that's not entering my mind as I write?
"I am fully pleasing,"
That kinda sucks.
"I am totally accepted by God,"
Which one? <vbg> - Generally, this strikes me as passive-dependent and probably palliating unresolved parent complexes ("Daddy really does love me, I swear!"). There is great value to be had in this, I think, if you dig deeply and find what, say, acceptance by Nuit really means.
"I am absolutely complete in Christ."
Beautiful, resoundingly of Tifereth. You just have to find the way to state it for yourself.
"When my performance reflects
My true identity in Christ,
That reflection is dynamically unique."This is pure gold with a bit of nice wrapping paper. You have to unwrap it, and decide how to say it.
"There has never been another person
Like me in the history of mankind,
Nor will there ever be."Purely Thelemic. If you like the words, use them; if not, dig into Chapter 2 of CCXX and look for something to inspire you.
"God has made me an original,
One of a kind, really somebody!!""Very useful concept below Tifereth, where the goal is still to concentrate oneself into a particular, distinctive somebody. But that's a tactic, a trick - necessary for a while. After Tifereth there is a balancing act, half of which is to fulfill the actuality of that golden center, and half of which is to get that the last word should be "nobody."
As I said... utterly off the cuff. Don't ever hold me to these words, but feel free to use them if useful.

Thank you for your reply! I've been working on my own version and your comments have been most helpful. I'm only half way through the affirmation, and it has transformed into something more beautiful then I thought it would be.

I like "As one who is No-thing.".

N"How about " Transformed, a new, Creature of Pure Gold, of intimate in worth and might".

I like it. I added " Taking my fill of Love of Nuit, In love deeply"

I read the first chapter of liber AL to try and find what acceptance from nuit might be. I think its either AL v:12-13, 22, 32, or 61. In v.:32 says tells him to "seek me only", and failing it with " by all I can give you, by all I desire of ye all". She clearly states she loves, yearns, and desires her children to come and seek her I think. She is the "Company of heaven", and ultimate mother / begetter of all, so it includes everyone I think. Further, Nuit says she will give one her secret name when one comes to know her, the go further in later verses 50-52, about ordeals of the heirophant, giving all in the center palace (chalice?), unto her, or face the direful judgment of Ra Hoor Khuit. Lastly in v.:61 But to love me is better then all things".
Your comment here stood out more then the rest with this, because I do want to experience that from Nuit. I just think that since she is the continuous consciousness of existence, and the universe that our star beings orbit within, that her love it isn't something new or alien. She didn't just decide at some point in time to offer something to all of us. Its that we've forgotten through incarnations of where we truly came from and once rested in her winb for aeons. I imagine it would be more of a recovered memory (oh!) once forgotten when one comes to know her, or again.
Nuit acceptance of me personally I think, would be experiencing Joy, ecstasy and Love in all I do, since her love, joy, and Ecstacy is in mine also.

I have a few things written down for this one, still need too look deeper into it, as for the meaning to be forgave for such things.
This is as far as I've gotten so far. Thanks again for your helpful input

"Hi again. Is there anywhere i can dig deeper about Nuit in accordance with her acceptence? Thanks again!

If you have a copy of Pearls of Wisdom, you might read pages 25-27, especially page 27.

"My Identity In Christ
[Finding my True Self]Because of Christ’s redemption,
[Messiah the redeemer]
I am a new creation of infinite worth.
[We are partakers in Heaven with Him]
I am deeply loved,
[For God so loved the world]
I am completely forgiven,
[The flesh is weak]
I am fully pleasing,
[But spirit is strong]
I am totally accepted by God,
[Lead me into righteousness, O YKVK]
I am absolutely complete in Christ.
[Finish thy Great Work]

My true identity in Christ,

There has never been another person

Like me in the history of mankind,

God has made me an original,
[Help me to hear thy voice, O Adonai]
One of a kind, really somebody!!"

The question of "redemption" is interesting. It has a slightly different flavour in the reconstruction of the Marcionite version of Galatians than it does in the orthodox version.
Picture this scenario: bloke wandering slave market, looking for his lost son, one of the slaves has an inner recognition that the bloke is his father, cries "Dad!", bloke recognizes, buys and frees his son. That's kind of the picture and original sense of "redemption".
Essentially, what this is depicting is that the unrest one feels with life, the feeling "isn't there something more than this?", *is *the "cry" ("Abba! Father!"), the most heartfelt surge within aiming at reality, aiming to free itself from all burdens.
That *is *the Christ Within "waking up". (As AC put it in MWT, it is "that within us which makes for righteousness".)
God the Father then hears this cry and "redeems" you (i.e. buys you out of slavery, out of the clutches of the Archons, etc.). The devil must have his due.
The "Great Sorcery" of orthodox Christianity was to separate out this entity, make him a historical figure, and an object of external worship (but since orthodoxy itself had Gnostic roots too, it couldn't quite expunge the central idea).

I like
"Because of Khoor's* volition
I am a manifestation of infinite worth."But that's all that really came to me.

"*There is a large collection of gods or redemptive heroes whose names begin with the sounds KR or ChR. One obvious example is Christ. The earliest spellings of the name "Horus" are with two hieroglyphs making exactly these sounds, as Khoor. We can add other names like Krishna and Chiram (Hiram). Other H- variants are linguistically close and may include the likes of Hermes. In some very fundamental ways, these are all the same essential idea, diversified in individual expression.
