In verse 7 V.V.V.V.V. is told to not be content with an image. The first thing coming to mind is that the seventh Sephiroth Netzach is attributed to desire and here he is told to not be satisfied, to keep desire burning, to keep seeking past the image.
In verse 8 even the higher self, the angel, identifies itself with an image. If we keep the logic of the previous verses this is in Hod which is attributed to form or forms. The angel self-identifies as a form, an Image of an Image, and further encourages seeking past even It. The word "image" is capitalized in the text which signifies to me that it is more than just any old image - It is trying to communicate something more core to our being.
In verse 9, in the middle pillar of the tree of life in Yesod, he is encouraged to not get caught up in the babble of images. At our foundation there is a sureness and certainty and an instruction to look beyond. The path to the Crown is mounted (climbed up to) via the moon (path of Gimel), the Sun (Tifereth), the arrow (path of Samekh / Sagittarius), the Foundation (Yesod), and the home of the stars from the black earth (Earth). A pathway straight through the middle pillar.
Verse 10 - "Not otherwise may ye reach unto the Smooth Point." This first brought to mind - "Kether is in Malkuth and Malkuth is in Kether, but after another manner..." In the Malkuth verse we are pointed back to Kether - the smooth point. This brings to mind Hadit, the core of every star, which indeed is the infinitesimal point within us. The beginning and ending wrapped up inside of each other.
Looking past images to what is under the surface and reaching toward it with a balanced approach in consciousness may reveal the hidden light beneath the coating of our "...black earth".
