May 29 (Air) Liber LXV, Cap II, v. 43-44
-
I had been looking at, originally, the dolphin and harper, as two separate things. That has some value in analysis, but I hadn't thought of one affecting the other. The harper's song, with changing instruments, helped to catalyze the transformation of the dolphin to a bird and then a faun until it became Pan. The All. It is fitting that no song necessarily causes Pan to appear. It is silence that proceeds Pan's presence. Pan is everything and thus nothing at the same time and this may be best symbolized by silence. In yoga I believe this would be one type of Samadhi or beyond - a union with the All in Eternity.
The dolphin couldn't be charmed by silence as it wasn't tempered for that. It required the stages of transformation before that point to be readied for the climatic presence of Pan.

This whole set of verses (37. - 44.) leads me today to thoughts & insights along these lines:
The task of initiating people, helping them reach the Next Step, should and can only be done gradually, applying adequate means at each stage (and with each particular person).
And Beauty is the crucial thing in this Work, the essential "fish-hook".
