    5. Beautiful wast thou, O Lilith, thou serpent-woman!
    6. Thou wast lithe and delicious to the taste, and thy perfume was of musk mingled with ambergris.
    7. Close didst thou cling with thy coils unto the heart, and it was as the joy of all the spring.

The name Lilith gives me some trouble as it brings up preconceptions of what it may mean. In the commentary Crowley gives a Qabalistic analysis to give an idea of what he felt it meant. Lilith boils down to material darkness which Jim pointed out a few verses ago as corresponding with the Nephesh with its relationship being approached from the Adept's point of view.

The pleasures of the material world are very appealing. The Nephesh being wrapped around the innermost core of the Adept surprises me in one sense and in others it doesn't. There is nothing wrong with that which is "lithe and delicious to the taste" and much joy does spring from these coils. However, in most matters, we are advised to keep focus on the higher modes of consciousness and to transmute and transcend our ability to perceive consciousness. In doings so we can always enjoy the pleasures afforded by manifestation and even so much more in expanded our consciousness beyond our lowest natures.
