Perception of Gender in the HGA
-
I'm very curious, for those of you who have attained KCHGA and are willing/permitted to discuss this matter (or if you can simply cite references to other magicians' views on the subject), how you generally think of your HGA's gender.
Male? Female? Both? Neither? Others?
(I imagine there are times for both expressions, but I'm interested in "general/default" for you.)
I have some reasons of my own, pertaining to my own Aspiration, for wondering.
I've seen people arguing that it tends to express as the gender the magician is most attracted to because that makes for being an easier "lover"; but Bro. Proserpinus (see Black Pearl #6) seems to be a straight or at least bi male, and refers to his Angel mostly as male, owing to the solar-phallic nature of the entity. Crowley's is male, but Crowley's sexuality is complicated.
And certainly Abramelin uses the masculine, but this is medieval times; authority figures tended to be masculine.
And as a final qualifier, obviously not everyone will even perceive so much the "lover" aspect of that relationship, since, of course, every Adept and every Angel are different.
My own perception of my own Angel (of whom I have had the Vision, but not yet KC) has shifted over time and so I find myself curious.
Cheers,

Flexible. Not always anthropomorphic. But when it is FWIW it's usually male.

Male, female, neither.
For the most part female.
On a related subject, there is a new book just out, titled Holy guardian angel.
Adepts freely sharing their insights.
Worth reading, IMO.inri

Worth reading, IMO."The Nephilim Press one with Jason Miller, Rufus Opus, et al? I've had it for a while now; several of the authors are pals of mine and I've been milking them.
If there's an even newer one, I must find it.
(I've been planning to get a fresh start on the Operation for a while now*, and a month and a half ago I formulated a plan for specific dates to start, but now ... I feel like Something is pushing me downhill and it's accelerating. So I'm getting all the insights I can.)
*I have started a couple times before, but literally didn't finish the first oration on Day 1 before I had an absolute sense that I wasn't ready. Whether that was actual Guidance, or a failing of my own insufficiently developed skills, dunno.

Physiological gender and practical gender are different things.
Jim, when I hear you saying "usually male", what I really hear is that, generally speaking, the formula of interaction between the aspirant and the HGA has the Angel as positive and the aspirant as negative.
More likely than not we are "receiving" something in any case, and I don't know about any of you, but in the low, sexual parallel of what we call "knowledge and conversation", I have definitely been on the receptive end of the interaction with both men and women...so do whatever you want with that.
