Jungian dream analysis
-
I see there are no posts yet in this topic, so I will add one!
I have been in Jungian psychoanalysis for over a year and would like to share some of the dream analysis techniques I have learned.
First, you can create an active dialogue between your unconscious and conscious that doesn't have to involve lucid dreaming. When you go to sleep, simply tell yourself you would like a dream about a specific topic, or question, or answer. Immediately upon waking, record everything you can remember about the dream (especially how you felt during the dream, even if your feelings seem irrational or don't make sense in the dream itself). The mind tends to want to get intellectual about it as soon as you wake up, but recording the emotions is vitally important. Once the unconscious notices you are paying attention (by writing your dreams down regularly), you should start to see themes and patterns in your dreams that build on each other.
Many online sources make the mistake of assuming that dream symbolism is the same for everyone. While there are universal themes that can be assessed, it's most important to determine what the symbol means and how it feels to you personally. For example, someone who grew up on a farm would have a very different feeling towards a farm landscape in a dream than someone who had never been on a farm.
Some common symbolism to pay attention to:
- Houses generally represent the psyche or sense of self.
- Pay attention to colors that appear in your dreams - these can be great clues, especially when referencing our work as magicians.
- Other people who appear in your dreams can be interpreted as either shadow or conscious aspects of yourself. It is a shadow aspect if you know there is another person or people there, but you don't know the identity of the person or people. If folks are interested, I can share a sample dream and the results of its analysis. Or you can share your dream and we can discuss!

I think this is a terrific topic. I tried this type of analysis, and it was not effective for me, but most are blessed with better sleep than I have had for years. I feel like people opening up to the subconscious and feeling comfortable talking about intuitive information is super valuable. With gratitude @Stef
