Law,
For what purpose do you plan on using this magical wand? It is preferable that you do make your wand yourself, since it is not a hard tool to make, but it is not mandatory, if your circumstances do not allow you the oportunity to create your own wand, a purchased wand should do just fine, even thou psychologically it somewhat weakens its power.
Keep in mind, the magic wand is perhaps one of the most important tools of the practioner of magic, if not the most important. Above all things it is a symbol for the will, with which the magician exerts his influence over whichever sphere the wand was created for and charged.
Do not despair, a magician may own as many wands as he needs, depending on what he is trying to achieve.
As for particular type of wood making a difference, yes, they do make a difference. I will give a few examples, Ash Tree (Fraxinus Excelsior) and Willow wood can be converted into wands, these type of wands can be used for all magical operations, since these type of woods are excellent magical conductors. Another example: Elder Wood (Sambucus Nigra) this wood is in analogy with Saturn, and is an excellent wand for invoking spirits from the elements, and summoning demons. Lastly, Oak and Acacia are also excellent for making wands.
Well, in reality until you empower your wand it is nothing more then an object. As for concecrating a magical tool, it is important to maintain the correct psychological attitude. Where you looking for particular methods on concecreating a tool? I suggest you read up and develope your own methods on that, thus personalizing it and giving the ritual more power. Some practioners prefer using salt, some sage, others prefer Abramelin Oil, it all depends on your personal preference, the more personal this is to you the more psychologically empowered it is, and the more efficency you will have on your path. I hope this brings some clarity to your current inquiries.
