If you had to think up a short motto that succinctly defined the gospel of thelema, what would it be? By gospel I mean evangelion, or "Good News".

What struck me most is the concept that "All existence is pure joy." This simple statement defied my stints as a Buddhist, Muslim, xian and Jew. When I practiced advaita I resonated with the concept of transcending the 3 gunas and I think Crowleys system does a wonderful job at leading the aspirant to that place beyond. So yeah, what's the good news that thelema revealed to you?

Yeah, I have to agree with Patrick: Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

The news doesn't get any better than that!

Yeah I can agree with that. Guess I'm going off what stuck out to me initially. I really didn't understand what "do what thou wilt" meant; it actually made be hesitant to take it seriously because I thought it was advocating an unprincipled life of doing whatever you want. I understand now though, funny that didn't occur to me.

See the A.'.A.'. Class E document, "The Law of Liberty" (Liber 837) in Equinox No. 11. It actually addresses this phrase in the language and spirit of "gospel" or "good news."

Agreed. My first instant thought was that phrase.

Oh, but it does mean doing whatever you want (to hell with all principles!), as long as that "want" is in alignment with one's will. 😉
