December 6 (Nuit) Liber L., Cap. I, v. 58-60
-
**58. I give unimaginable joys on earth: certainty, not faith, while in life, upon death; peace unutterable, rest, ecstasy; nor do I demand aught in sacrifice.
59. My incense is of resinous woods & gums; and there is no blood therein: because of my hair the trees of Eternity.
60. My number is 11, as all their numbers who are of us. The Five Pointed Star, with a Circle in the Middle, & the circle is Red. My colour is black to the blind, but the blue & gold are seen of the seeing. Also I have a secret glory for them that love me.

This is one of the most profound messages of the book for me. Being saturated in Christianity as a child into my teens this one verse really turns much of that on its head. I was used to being promised joys unheard of and unseen (though in the Thelemic context the possibilities are so much greater) however, without a fleeting "belief", within life, and "sacrifice" has a connotation here meant to upturn the past. This verse then for me, but I think generally as well, is kind of meant to usurp the past in ideology and direction. Furthermore, there is a certain nobility of operating with the idea of fulfilling your life's fullest potentials and being allowed to while embracing existence as it is.

The incense can be taken as literal - resinous woods and gums. Blood typically represents life force, but may be too linked to certain forms of life. The woods and gums may be more all encompassing. Not sure, but I can't say I'm sure of much.
