Be strong, o man! lust, enjoy all things of sense and rapture: fear not that any God shall deny thee for this.

Is it not possibly violative of one's True Will?
Drugs, junk food, pornography etc. are all things of "sense and rapture", but they might be a serious hindrance of one's Great Work due to their effects on the body and/or mind.
    Am I missing something? 😕

What it means is be a Buddhist saint by all means but if things get weird like you think it's time to leave society then come back down to earth and realize you're a Westerner.

The verse recommends that you "enjoy" all things without fear that doing so will get you into hot water with some god or other. If you allow the things of sense and rapture to violate your True Will, then you aren't actually finding joy in them, you are being ruled by them. Be strong, and you will find the joy rather than the servitude.

Little kids don't get to play with matches, because they're not capable of being responsible to not burn the house down. Grownups are allowed, but will still be on the hook if they burn a place down.

Spiritual kids don't get to play with taboo stuff like drugs, pornography, junk food, because they're not capable of being responsible to not go wackadoodle with them. Spiritual grownups are allowed (which doesn't mean they have to), but will still be on the hook if they cause damage to anyone's life--themselves included.

Note the first two words; "Be strong" then your question is irrelevant.
            Amen.

Interesting; how is the word "strong" to be interpreted and how can we be sure that we are not misinterpreting it?

                If power asks why, then....etc.

Who is truly in control, you or the event/item/etc in question?
I think that defines "strength" in this and most other contexts.

Then strength means doing things out of "pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result"?
And is there no difference whatever between "power" and "strength" in these contexts?
