LBRP blues

Hello
Can I be direct? The whole pentagram bit of the LBRP doesn't make sense to me. You're banishing Earth only, but the color is bright blue, and you're intoning Adonai in the South Quarter. The more I read up on it, the more confused I get, and it's begun bleeding into my practice. This morning I messed things up Royally, I kept jumping around in the Ceremony and there was no balance in the energies. I fear that if I continue this way, my ritual will fall apart altogether.
Can anyone give me a hint or point me in the direction of a ... less diluted source?
Thanks,
/A

"You're banishing Earth only, but the color is bright blue, and you're intoning Adonai in the South Quarter."
This is a common misconception, you are not banishing Earth only, but rather using the same form of pentagram as Earth to banish everything. Another way of looking at it is that Earth is the summation of Fire, Water, and Air according to some Hermetic and Qabalistic texts.
I believe electric blue is a modern addition, pure white light will serve just as fine if you feel it more appropriate.
As for Adonai in the southern quarter, the God names do not refer to elemental quarters, but are pure expressions of consciousness. You could read them like this
"YHVH (The Universe/all of creation), Lord, I am that I am, Thou art Forever and ever Lord." It is a form of prayer, as well as stating the inherent divinity within and aligning consciousness with That.
You may find Crowley's comments on the ritual useful, these can be found here:

Thank you, that was exactly the kind of information that I was looking for!
Regarding the Banishing, does that relate to Malkuth? - as in are you in effect banishing all the elements of Malkuth, and stepping up into the Tree? The Earth then signifying the Body, or 'this world'? Or am I on the wrong track there?

That is debated among occultists. My opinion, the LBRP banishes everything below Tiphareth in terms of unbalanced energies (Tiphareth being the most balanced position on the tree). If you read Crowley's commentary, you are actually performing the ritual on the intersection of Samekh and Peh- which is worth meditation in it's own right.

I think the banishing part with the pentagrams does correlate to work on mulkuth. But after you call upon the four archangels, there is a distinct change in energy in the entire ritual. These four archangels correspond to briah of tiphareth, natzech, hod, and yesod. This arrangement revolves around samekh & peh. I'm inclined to believe that by the time we call upon the archangels we then have centered ourselves at those particular crossroads.

My thought on the LBRP was at one point that you are doing two things in one; doing the work of the snake that climbs the Tree and coaxing the Thunderbolt from on High, both at the same time. Or in another way, you are preparing the vessel and invoking the higher powers.
