hod/netzach
-
Quick question: So Hod is the intellectual/'object of worship' and Netzach is the means/will/method to worship "it" (the Hod)? I've really begun re-intensifying my study of the Sephiroth and this concept kind of "leapt in the mind." Any thoughts?
[edit] My question is stinted, I know.

I would describe Hod as the state of mind involved in abstract definition and categorization of an object/idea/concept. And Netsach as the state of mind involved in drives/desires/wants.
I think your worship wording stems from an example. Netsach has you saying (although probably pre-verbally) "I need spiritual connection, I should engage in more practice" and Hod has you saying "1/2 an hour of meditation each day, in dragon pose".
Force and Form.

Are you primarily focussing on the symbolism of the respective pillars? If so, I can see this as true in terms of the pillars in general - but not Hod and Netzach specifically.
For example, it's a realistic expression of the relationship of Chokmah and Binah.
Hod is intellect. Netzach is desire. If I follow through what you have described, it would mean worshipping one's intellect. That's already a bit of a problem for a lot of Qabalists

93,
Thank you both for your answers.Mr. Eshelman, you say Netzach is "desire," but Dion Fortune reiterates again and again that Netzach is cognate with "instinct." I was just wondering if there was any more insight you could share into your choosing the word "desire."
FWIW, I agree with "desire." To put it into the terms of being at a music concert. Hod would be appreciating the: guitar tone, vocal quality, trill in the bass solo, the skillful double bass of the drums, the glissando of the guitar riff, etc., etc., ETC. of the song. Yesod would be enjoying the song without thinking of its constituents, just listening, not discussing, and moving your head; i.e., being moved by the "music."

With great respect proffered to Fortune's excellent work, instinct is the destinctive domain of Yesod.
My use of the word "desire" comes from a standard table of psychological attributions of the Sephiroth, particularly the differentiation of the six Ruach Sephiroth into sub-functions. It also ties in with the practices and training there, and corresponds to the fiery aspect of the personality field. Though there are different ways to talk about these attributions, my use of "desire" for Netzach is not controversial.

I keep finding myself at odds with you on almost everything you say about Hod -which, ironically, could be just the words <g>. Hod is intellect and the base of the Pillar of Form. It especially instructs that what we call intellect is all form, structure, architecture rather than force, vitality, etc.
We are pretty closer on Yesod, though. I've long differentiated Yesod in music as rhythm, percussion, etc. (embryonic noises matches with the R-complex rhythm-pattern elements), in contrast to Tiphereth which is the harmony aspect of music.

At the end of "The Middle Pillar" by Regardie (Llewllyn 2006, third edition), in the Appendix there is a section about Musical Notes and Qabalah by one Thom Parrott.

There I always attributed both desire and instinct to Netzach. I always kind of thought of the two as one and the same. I know that's not exactly true in all cases, just stating my... understanding up to point.
Hod I've always viewed as intellect and form, Netzach the desire and instinct(that which gives life to the forms) that fills the things of Hod. Of course, part of this view I think tainted by my life.Up until recent history, my life has required instinct to survive, and so I've attributed many of my desires in the same fashion as well.......
