The individual Next Step looks like the Highest Ideal until it's achieved.* While admitting that it's not that, we should give all of ourselves unreservedly to it. Because it's the only possible Way, if for no other reason. But since we exist in Eternity, even the Highest Ideal will eventually be achieved—and there's no one Highest Ideal, but rather an ever-changing conception of it.
- Hence the common phenomenon of mistaking the beginning (or any part) of the Path for its End.

Nice, coupled with what you wrote I get the effect of boxes within boxes of gifts or something, each one seeming like the greatest thing one could conceive. It is part of the human condition in general from a baby, to a toddler, child, teen, etc. and part of humanity as a whole. In our technological age we've seen so much growth and yet we regress a bit too (myself being guilty as charged). In our practical lives we'll continue to see the Next Step over and over again (hopefully) and spiritually we are still progressing in this Aeon. It is good to remember it is a process! Keep your eyes on the prize and you'll get it, just try not to look down
