Continuation of A.'.A.'. thread

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law
93 Jim,
My fault - I was not being explicit and posted somewhat vague questions. Thank you for responding so promptly, Jim. Here it is in very concise form:
- I would very much like to join the A.'.A.'. and have contacted the Cancellarius multiple times with no response (I read on another thread that this is because he is hospitalized and not out of some kind of ignoring, so I understand but.... I would still very much like to join!)
- I have every single physical book on the reading list except certain Equinox volumes which I have read almost entirely in full multiple times. On a sidenote, are you aware
- I am available sometimes around the Bay Area, perhaps for College or Temple of Thelema courses (which I assume are in person only) but sometimes am much further south or out of town... I would also be able to do the "#1" option you offered Techpriest. I am slightly confused abotu the difference between Temple and College but I think I get it (Temple includes College but also more traditional ceremonial magick training, I believe...)
Essentially I wish to join the A.'.A.'., I have the required materials, and am open to any option (though am currently not even in the continent but will return shortly!)

Requirement No. 1 of the classic Student program is to have the books. Quoting the original notice, "He must possess the following books," etc. Personal physical ownership of the books is the first requirement for being considered for that program.

College of Thelema is a college. You enroll in a class, purchass study materials, have assignments, write and hand-in papers, complete a certain amount of classwork, etc. Temple of Thelema is an initiating Order. Members are initiated, attend two regular meetings a month, have assigned work for each degree and, upon completion of that work, are moved to the next degree. (All of the specific assignments in C.O.T. Course I are included somewhere in the First Order of Temple of Thelema.)
I'm not sure what "much further south or out of town" means - that is, I'm unclear where you are saying you live. In any case, since it appears that you live somewhere in Northern California, if you interested in exploring College of Thelema enrollment, read helema.org/college_of_thelema/index.html and write to the Sacramento campus at cot-sac @ thelema . org - If interested in applying for initiation in Temple of Thelema, read helema.org/temple_of_thelema/index.html and write either to the San Francisco group at SFchiefs @ aumha . org or the Sacramento group at SacChiefs @ aumha . org - that will put you in contact with the appropriate people in each location.
"(though am currently not even in the continent but will return shortly!)"
OK, that would be a problem. Perhaps my answer should simply have been, "Write again when you return to the area."

Dont you think it is kind of ridiculous to require all 10 issues of volume 1 since they run over 1000 dollars sometimes? Is Gems of the Equinox not enough or the majority of those issues? I have every single PHYSICAL book other than about 3 issues of Equinox vol.1 which are VERY expensive.

I see.

Honestly, Jim THAT is why I PMed you - you are almost forcing people to hand out personal information on a public forum that anyone can view.

Do these necessitate A.'.A.'. membership? I live, during 3/4 of the year, in the Bay Area.

I have tried to contact the secretary and you more than several times while in the states - I am only writing this now (I will be back in 2 days... it was just a side comment).

Dear Aum418,
On my thread about the Equinox under general discussion Jim responded and said that Gems from the Equinox would suffice in replacement for the entire equinox. I would also like to note Gems will be reprinted in November. -

I've already said that Gems is suffcient for this purpose, yes.
As for thinking it ridiculous to require the materials - No, I don't. For something that a person plans to spend the rest of their life doing as a central piece of that life, it's not an extreme matter to have them get the basic resources. (That's an opinion, of course - which is what you asked for.)

There is no intrinsic relationship between either option and A.'.A.'. membership. These are merely two options we accept as fulfilling the Student stage prerequisites. I think the best approach, given your expressed interest, is for you to discuss the geographic issue with the Temple officers or College instructor when you meet with them in person.

Oh, I must have missed the part that said Gems was sufficient - I was only saying the requirement was 'ridiculous' in relation to Equinox vol.1no.1-10 as they are so rare and expensive when they are found. The rest are quite simple/easy to find.

the equinox is still in print and the cheapest place to find it, believe it or not is walmart.com. i got mine there for around 200$ this was a few years ago but i assume its still there they have most crowley books at a very low price.
-
Just looked at walmart.com, the equinox truely is out-of-print. However, they have the reprint of Gems from the Equinox listed for about $30. It will be available November 30th, 2007. Have a lovely day y'all.

Wow!! Thanks for the heads-up. I'll (no doubt) be first in line to get my copy in Oklahoma.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
It sounds like there are many people in a similar situation here.
I have collected all of the books. I have written the Cancellarius four times. I have included a detailed autobiography with emphasis on my occult interests, history, and experience. I then went into why I am specifically interested in the A.'.A.'., my spiritual goals, etc. I included my date, time and place of birth for astrological analysis, a summary of family details for psychological analysis, some educational history for intellectual analysis, a 9 entry excerpt of my magical journal, and an esp data set consisting of thousands of card pulls.
I can't imagine that there is any further detail anyone would need. My desire to join the A.'.A.'. is fervent and obvious. I still await ANY sort of reply. Help!

This is nothing new, some goes for magickal regalia. The best to do is to make them your self and that can be hard work as well. But to get the books irl, to do the regalia your self hood n all isn't a part of the great work. A way to manifest the will and the spirit?
