Subconscious Magick
-
Magi generally work magical effects through some sort of conscious effort, they've got the whole Imago and casting tools and what not.
But are there any ways you can think of where a person could be the focus of magical effects, and maybe even unconsciously responsible for the effects, but not consciously or intentionally producing the magic?
I remember from reading there were Arabians who didn't necessarily think they were doing anything magical, they just expected the universe to work in a bizarre way, and their magic made the universe conform to their insanity. Or stories of magi whose world view was a little skewed and their HGA obliged in making it how they expected it.
The sort of unconscious magic I'm thinking of would be more a personal thing rather than a culturally accepted set of practices.
I think that certain people have an subconscious understanding of magic. That's why even when not trained some people can sometimes display great feats of magic (although it might have taken them less time had they trained). I wouldn't go as far as to say it's intuitive, just subconscious.
Building on this assumption I'd say that Theurgists can cast magic subconsciously, but thought I would see what others thought.

In the Middle East there is an idea of a negative force known as the 'Evil Eye'. Whoever this Evil Eye looks upon is said to be visited by negativity. The means by which the Evil Eye is able to look upon an individual is through another person. By looking upon another with jelousy, anger, contempt, etc. we are thought to 'invite' the Evil Eye to work upon them through us. According to this scheme, it need not even be our intention to cause harm - nor need we even be conscious of the allowance. All that is required to work this 'magick' is to simply judge someone.

Where I come from we call it the "Stink Eye"

I definitely noticed that there are many tasks that can be 'submitted to the subconscious, sort of like sending a large computational task into a computer grid. The conscious mind goes about it's business and after a while, a resolution to the problem submit is 'surfaced'. This is a very handy 'feature' of the hardware/wetware they gave us on this planet . While not really magick, but the next level down, is to submit 'jobs' not to solve a problem, but to cause a change. Down past the bits of reptilian and autonomous function parts of the local subconscious is the gateway to the collective. It seems there is an operator's station above the vortex whereby these changes are managed in relation to the collective. This seems to be stimulated by sigils, symbols, vibrations, servitors, meditation, or other ritual programming. It seems to operate on a similiar principle as that of solving a problem, but rather this 'task' is to cause the universe, or the operator, to behave or change in the desired manner, possibly by tinkering with the potentiality of the quantum flux by force of will and vibration of thought via the collective.

Reminds me a little of Spare's remark in The Book of Pleasure, that "Magic is merely the power to attract without asking". Spare's system of enshrining a wish into a sigil is a means of working through the subconscious rather than the conscious mind.
Best wishes,
Michael.
