The Feast of St. Karl (Oct 25)
-
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Tomorrow, October 25, is the date that I have proclaimed The Feast of St. Karl, an annual feast occasion in honor of Karl Johannes Germer (Frater Saturnus), who is included in the list of saints recognized by Temple of Thelema. October 25 is the anniversary of his death.
In addition to feasting and celebration as one sees fit, I encourage taking this occasion to learn about St. Karl through the vast information resources now available.
In particular, he is recognized as a significant figure in bringing Thelema in general, and the A.'.A.'. in particular, forward to a new generation. Karl attained to the grade of Master of the Temple, 8=3, according to Aleister Crowley. He lived a live characterized by an almost unimaginably high level of support of Crowley's work and sense of duty to his legacy. In both his highest attainment and the most tedious parts of his personality, he gave embodiment to the nature of Saturn, from whom he took his aspiration name. After Crowley's death, Germer was an important resource in the continued training of Jane Wolfe (Sor. Estai) and Phyllis Seckler (Sor. Meral), and was the Master who knew of and recognized Phyllis' attainment of the grade of Adeptus Minor in the early 1950s.
There is much more to know about Karl, and we invite you to take this occasion to learn about and celebrate his life of profound service.

Are there any events in St. Karl's life that stick out in your mind? For me it was the anecdote that he attained KCHGA while being detained in a Nazi concentration camp by reciting the Holy Books from memory, forwards and backwards.

Which resources are you referring to? To date I haven't found much substantial information on Germer at all, bar the occasional mention or anecdote.

I simply meant the variety of search capabilities that the Internet provides.

But are you aware of any source in particular where I might find more information on St. Karl? I wonder if remnants of his diaries exist somewhere.
