Mem final in Sepher Sephiroth
-
I was looking at Sepher Sephiroth for the first time today, and I have a question about the value of the Mem final.
In the table on page xvi, mem final is valued at 600, but I'm having a hard time finding even a single example of where it is calculated at that value in the gematria tables. Usually, it's just valued at 40 like the um... mem regular...
Is there any kind of rule of thumb about the valuation of finals? Like maybe they're not usually counted that way but they can be or something?
Thanks.

Yes, rule of thumb is that basic numeration is done without considering special value for finals. Mem = 40 wherever it appears.
But you can also re-enumerate with the final value for a second level of meaning. A great example is ALPh (Aleph). Normally this is 111 but, with Peh-final, it becomes 831. The former is one of the Magick Numbers of the Sun. The latter is the Greek value for PhALLOS, phallus (among other things). Aleph is both of these things at once - and most writers since mid-19th Century have called Aleph "the Creative Light."
