Make up, war-paint, History, and Ritual
-
Make up has been used spiritually by our enlightened ancestors throughout time and history, and i was hoping that some of you could add your thoughts.
I know that the anceint egyptian women crushed lapis Lazuli crystal-cure.com/lapis-gem.html and wore the powder on thier eyes like eye shadow (origin or eyeshadow??) According to the link above, it can turn one into a "channel" by wearing, and it can make things come to you clearer... the only reason i've seen that explains the egyptians use of this powdered "eyeshadow" was to "keep out the evil eye" and another stone i beleive is used for the mouth (lipstick)
"War paint" is another example of "makeup" and what it produces...
Does anybody else know anything on this?
The second part of my post is to do with Ritual... The Ritual of applying make up, past or present is actually one that is handed down via families and in daughter watchers mothers go through this ritual routine and aspire to take on such a routine... i found this whilst looking up on it... curiousbird.typepad.com/curious_bird/2009/06/daily-ritual-a-little-makeup.html
"I remember watching my mom put on makeup when I was young. The whole process fascinated me, especially when she applied her mascara. It seemed kind of dangerous, yet very exciting and worth the trouble.
Nowadays I have my own daily makeup routine -- nothing serious, just a bit of rouge (as my dear grandmother would say -- love that), some concealer for my dark circles, a little lip color, and of course, mascara."
If you'll note, the comments to this little seemingly mainstream thought process (little to no spirituality can be taken from this at first look)
I am going to end with Jezabel (the whore of babylon) who was also a sacred prositute (Jezabel translates into Ba'al lives... as does Ba'al translate into simply Lord)
Right before going out to certain death, she applied her make up, and she prettied her hair... considering she left the dwelling as was slain, this gives me more of a "war paint" feel than a woman simply prettying herself.
Thoughts?
