      "One of the key drivers is the number of countries, which has risen dramatically – from 47 in 1870 to 187 in 2001."

      So, it appears that "Balkanization" is what is going on here.

        With the trend only increasing, I wonder what that means for the years ahead? Will the idea of how war is classified change as we enter the era of Technology e.g. Cyberwarfare.
