    45. O my adorable, my delicious one, all night will I pour out the libation on Thine altars; all night will I burn the sacrifice of blood; all night will I swing the thurible of my delight before Thee, and the fervour of the orisons shall intoxicate Thy nostrils.

      What jumps out at me is the reference to the night, and the suggestion that there are many altars.

      PJ Harvey sings: "Open this mouth wide, eat your he-a-a-a-a-art!" It is cannibalism on one level, but in the next breath she mutters that this unrestrained gesture of love is also an act of worship. A feast every day?

      Somewhere in those little essays left behind by Ida Craddock she describes a stage in her sexual yoga where the couple actively share the psycho-spiritual bliss of physical love with God—the waves of sexual ecstasy cascading over the bodies of the lovers, but not owned by them. Rather, it is a potent wine offered up to the divine presence.

      Love and Will

        O my adorable = sight
        my delicious one = taste
        pour out, burn the sacrifice, swing the thurible = touch
        orisons = hearing
        intoxicate thy nostrils = smell
