Hi!
I am quite new to the study of the western hermetic traditions, as well as this board. I have just started on what is the Student Syllabus. I realize my username is quite in line, but by merest chance, as it were.
I look forward to lurking for some time and reading a bunch of the back posts and source documents. I'll keep my questions to myself for the meantime. There's a lot of material everywhere...
I do have one, though. I was reading Hinton's 4th dimension. Or rather, I was reading Magick Without Tears, and it was mentioned, so I read it (no, not every blamed table!). And I was struck that it might be possible to map the hypercube (or hypersphere, in this case) to the Sephiroths. Then, the transformations that Hinton talked about are synonymous with either Initiation (as the vessel for the seed) or exposition of Logos (as the seed into the vessel), which translate one's conscious locus from one sphere to another.
Sooo, you get a topologically contiguous Map, and a set of paths from sphere to sphere in Hinton. As a bonus, since it is mathematical, you also get the nature of the transformations that happen in the other spheres when you do so.
What also struck me was the rotating through the 4th dimension places Da'ath squarely reachable in this configuration, from anywhere. It's no longer pathless, but has paths to everywhere else, just given the proper "rotation" of consciousness.
So my question is do you know if this leads anywhere?
Namaste!

Hi there!
Haven't read what you did, but for quote some time now I have been playing with geometry. Yesterday, I took a break and sat down with half of a star tetrahedron. ( I have a bunch of these that I had machined for a different purpose).
But anyways, I was playing around with idea of assigning each surface a specific corresponse, and how that would actually play out...
I realized that it would be, or become, a map. My mind tends to want to believe that it is a coded map, similar to our DNA..Considering that the image of the tree of life can easily be superimposed over these geometric symbols, I would agree with you.
Cartography is a hobby of mine.

Hi! Thanks for the reply.
Yes, well, it seems to me that part of the idea of western mystery schools is to create a set of maps (which certainly needn't be all logos, per se) that are valid for the clusters of experiences/energies that encompass whatever phenomena one wants to try it with.
In my case, the thought was to map them what are called the spheres. I guess I would tend to think of them symbolically as strange attractors (attractors are points around which energies (in this case) coalesce) (strange attractors have a non-integer dimension (cf pythagoras - the secret of the circle) ) but that is probably neither here nor there.
So, part of the key to both our playings is - how to lay out the topology. What piece belongs where? I don't know what kind of correspondences you were trying to create, but what would you get out of the transformed model? Are you looking to see what is now "next" to another data point unexpectedly (do they share an edge), or what bigger patterns can be made of groupings of correspondences...?
For mine, I guess I would place the spheres in each geometric location. One fixed spot would be Da'ath (in the 4th, 'away' form us). I guess I'd first try the classic Dali Christ version of the tesseract as the TOL model. I guess I would want to make sure the normal paths appear in the tesseract on the visible layer as seen from our perspective, and that the 'hidden paths' I found out about yesterday (here) also correspond. If doesn't seem to fit, shift around the spheres until it either works or give up.
However, this is all very theoretic. First, I have little knowledge of the theory of the spheres and paths as such, and even less of the supporting structures, symbols, etc.
Second, I would imagine that most people are not feeling these energies purely (everyone has their own filters), so you don not actually start with this model. Boo ! So there's another mystery, where to start, "actually"?
It looks like in order for the information to actually do any good, one must create an experiential basis for each sphere. This seems to me to be quite tricky; it appears almost always possible to induce a desired state if prompted. If this state is imprinted, it becomes the basis. Disregarding that another prompting could easily have produced, a differently nuanced, tangent, reversted, or entirely different and imprinted that.
It also seems necessary that must also find out the "relation" (let us say) between your particular rubric cube state and the Ideal Model state. This appears less tricky, but equally hard. Know thyself, indeed.
Actually if you get this far, it would seem possible to find the steps to right your line in particular (if you have gauged your position accurately), simply by looking at what transforms bring you about to the Ideal Model.
Well, that was fun.
Namaste!

Well I have a lot to think about with that, maybe I will get sometime to play again soon.....
I like way you think, thankf for sharing!
