I suggest starting with the history of Aleister Crowley, its founder. Read a briefing of what Thelema IS and DOES, what it believes in.
If interested, you can also follow the path of Wicca. Aleister was a witch (or wizard, whatever) as well and was very influential in the world of witchcraft.

Not true (at least, not by any conventional use of the words).

True, in that Gerald Gardiner drew heavily on Crowley for his Book of Shadows. (And he wasn't the only one.)

I realise that the word "witch" has been abused by modern culture, but the true meaning is still all the same. I can use alternative words such as: strega or Pagan, if you will, but the point is same. He is mentioned many times in Witchcraft books and is considered to be one of the key figures of Occultism of our history.
