The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram and Mood/Affect
-
I'll start out by saying I'm "bipolar" or manic-depressive. Recently I've gone into a state of hypomania, and the psychiatrist I see decided to put me on lithium. I've only been on it though for 2 days now, and it hasn't really taken effect yet.
Anyway, now that I'm 14 days clean from abusing any substances I find that since my mood is no longer effected by them, I've been having more undesirable moods like depressed feelings or feeling too much energy to handle.
Interestingly I got back into my ritual practice for the first time in a couple months today, and noticed something: In my hypomanic state I performed the LBRP with four banishing Earth pentagrams and when I finished, suddenly my mood went from a little too high to a little too low.
A few hours later, after being tired of feeling suddenly so down and tired, I performed it again but used the invoking Earth pentagrams instead. Now my energy is back and I feel great! I was wondering if anyone else had this sort of experience with this particular ritual and I'm also wondering one other thing: what sort of mood effects can I expect by invoking or banishing the other elements: Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit (if that counts as one to you)
I'm very intruiged that my "mental illness" can actually be treated by performing rituals more effectively perhaps than taking medications! It's exciting to me.
Thanks everyone

I remember when I had a divorce, I would have a lot of anxiety and panic attacks. I'm being treated for a mood disorder now, but not my depression. Back then, I was relatively new to all of this so I wasn't doing anything consistently. I started doing LBRP every day, sometimes twice or three times a day to keep those negative energies at bay.
I truly feel that ritual helped me become a better more stable person, and helped me cope with the stress of my divorce in a positive way. I also meditated quite a bit, but Dharana was difficult because I couldn't control the bad places I went to after the first hour.
I can't say much for other disorders or poisons in our life, but I feel that I helped myself immensely.
I view LBRP not only as a banishing ritual, but a protective and grounding ritual. I view middle pillar as a healing/rejuvenation ritual. These two together every day or more seems to help with things the OP is talking about.

"Success in banishing is known by a feeling of cleanliness in the atmosphere; success in invoking by a feeling of holiness. It is unfortunate that these terms are so vague." ~Liber O
The LRP does not use elemental pentagrams but generic all-purpose pentagrams.
I will say it again: the pentagrams in the LRP have nothing to do with the elements, they
do not affect any specific element in any specific way. That means that the pentagrams in the LBRP are not "earth banishing pentagrams" and the pentagrams in LIRP are not "earth invoking pentagrams".
So what do "lesser banishing..." and "lesser invoking..." refer to?
The LBRP (among other things) banishes all -general- low elemental garbage you might
have in your aura and space. The LIRP invokes holiness into your aura and space.
Someone could look LBRP as purification and LIRP as cosecration("to associate with the sacred").

This is how I see the Lesser Ritual of Pentagram working (besides Qabalistic Cross and invoking of LVX):

Imagine you are the plate (Microcosm) and have one element at each hollow space. Some spaces are more complete than others. Some of them could be overfilled. Invoking would fill or complete any empty space, while Banishing would clean anything exceeding the allocated space and hole. In other words, Invoking would complete any gaps in your Microcosm, while Banishing would clean and balance anything that is too much.
Usually the elements manifest themselves as moods (sentimental, dispersive, angry, and so son), so I use to work LBRP to bring myself back to track when I feel unbalanced. That is my practical daily view of this practice, but there is also the spiritual effects upon which I am not an expert to comment.
I don't see Lesser Pentagram as "not elemental", I see it as working entire elemental system at same time. To work with one element in turn, then I would use Greater Ritual.

I agree with your view Alan.

One must look to the patterns of Magick, the Tree, the pentagram, and all elements including spirit when one undertakes a serious conversation regarding the LRP.
The pentagrams are certainly "Earth Banishing/Invoking" pentagrams for a specific purpose. The element of Earth holds the form of all the other elements, a HUGE task! (I feel sympathy for Auriel, Phorlakh, and all the other beings of the hierarchy of Earth incarnation.)
Now when we look at this ritual, we must look at the map of the magic of our minds.
Air as Yehowah is in the East, for that is where the Sun Rises, and the direction that all light originates from as due East. (Thanks for the wording, Jim.)
Earth is in the south as Adonai, for it holds the form of Fire directly, "And a crust of Earth concealed the core of Flame." This is a very important concept to understand for one who wishes to know the underlying, true aspects of this ritual. The Earthen pentagram binds to and holds the form of this Light from Air itself that feeds the sacred Fire.
Eheieh in the West to proclaim that one is a manifestation of the original Light from the East. The moving of the Earth into the West is a little difficult to throw into this conversation, but the subtle hints are there.
Atah Gibor le-Olam va'ed Adonai in the North proclaiming that one is a messenger of one's Holy Guardian Angel sharing aspects of the Cabalistic Cross, bringing the original element of Earth back into the north in a deosil, clockwise progression of time, completing the holding of all forms of the other elements with the Earth pentagram, and holding the entire form of the ritual itself by connecting that pentagram of Earth to that of the original one of the East. This also connects the entire ritual and Earth holding its form, to the original Light of the East.

The Divine Names in the lesser ritual of the pentagram have nothing at all to do with elemental attributions. They refer to a totally different pattern.

I totally agree.
The dance behind the ritual itself is where the real power originates. This is played out in the ritual by vibrating divine names in different quarters.
We should note all the elemental attributions to quarters as defined by sepher yetzirah, issaic the blind, etc.. to observe the cabalistic pattern of such a ritual.
