NBRP vs. LBRP
-
Is anyone doing this?
www.hermetic.com/osiris/nbrp.htmAnd does anyone feel dumb for not figuring it out him- or herself?
I have posed questions over the years about the LBRP and MPR both and now am beginning to believe I was right to wonder.
The points made in Frater O's NBRP article make a lot of sense.

I see much of this as just mistakes or poor assumptions, many of which others pointed out to me in other similar discussions. I hope folk can point out some of my own mistakes and poor assumptions.

Claims we go clockwise to invoke and counterclockwise to banish. Wiccan's and most neo-pagans I know do this, but I haven't known Heremetic magicians to do so. So I don't see anything to correct in this regard.

Claims the LBRP uses an earth-banishing pentagram and only banishes earth. But others argue that it uses an Assiah or, as Jim said on this board said recently, a generic pentagram. Furthermore, some say the ritual banishes junk in general from the self and space, rather than the elements specifically. Don't we use the different GBRPs for banishing specific elements?

Claims Adonai is associated with earth because we use Adonai ha-Aretz as the divine name for Malkuth. But Adonai simply means Lord. I see no reason to associate it with earth. Moreover, I don't know that the writers of the ritual had any intention of associating the quarters and divine names with the elements, at least for the purposes of the LBRP.

"let me add that Adonai is the general Divine Name for Earth itself, and that it is derived from the Malkuth name - just as IHVH is received into Yesod from Tiphereth, AL is received into Hod from Chesed, and ALHIM is received into Netzach from Gevurah (or, as I prefer to think of it, Binah)."
Please explain this more. What do you mean by one sephirah receiving its name from another? I can see that YHVH is part of the divine name for Tiphareth, but what does it mean for Yesod to receive it? Do you mean the origins of the divine names used in the LBRP?

"Ah, so I can forget ever learning how to correctly do this. This is good to know! Thank you. (This is not sarcasm. I have officially given up on this and all other GD exercises)."
It helps to have an experienced person to help you along with things. But keep doing the LBRP, even if you don't know the meanings of all of the symbols and actions. I keep finding new levels of symbolism or new justifications for every type of work like this that I do. If you want to understand everything about it before you do it, then you'll never do it. Keep doing it and you'll start to sort things out. But don't expect this to happen in a week or probably even a few months. It'll probably still surprise you after a year or two, perhaps longer, but I wouldn't know. If nothing else, you develop practice with your vocalizations, ritual movements, and focus.

93;) I saw your posted commentary in the NEW BANISHING RITUAL OF THE PENTAGRAM. I just tried it out & it WAS a powerfull experience. I have been doing the Standard LBRP fro a while with no effects that I can really tell. I have issues with a 'vampire entity', that is just a description of what it usually does or tries to do with me when I sleep & the regular LBRP does not work of give me any resu
lts of changing consciousness that are obvious. The feeling I got with the NBRP was kind of an ugly or maybe more accurately an un-nerving feeling with a really hot feeling at the center of my chest after I vibrated IAO. It took maybe 3 or 4 seconds after the completion of the ritual & then it came in a wave & felt like my auric 'anchor points' or aura in general started to shift as if I was on a ship that was listing or more accurately I had the sense that it (my aura) was about to do so in a very powerfull way. I IMMEDIATELY did the My experiences in magick are with the MIDDLE PILLAR RITUAL ( which started my issues with entities) Any commentary & the several Gnostic Masses I have attended at my local OTO LODGE, 'Blazing Star Oasis', in Berkely. As I JUST FINISHED the NBRP not more than maybe 20 minutes ago I thought I'd see who might have an EXPERIENCED opinion. Was what I felt a 'nuthin but' a re- distribution of the elements or something I may not have considered?Anyway, please excuse my grammatic errors & such. I just wanted to see if you might give some input.

As magicians, we might recognize the cycles and patterns of power involved in every kind of successfully-constructed ritual.
When you banish Fire in the South for instance, with the GBRP, you not only banish Fire, you banish Fire BY Fire. Meaning you take the form of the power of Fire, and banish the entire element besides the most purest lines of Light and divinity that are left when you complete banishing in the South.
This, I believe, is where people get confused about deosil and widdershins, (counter/clockwise.) As long as you understand why things move they way they move and are where they are, you will have a hard time screwing up.
