"A competent astrologer, given the necessary data, can predict quite accurately for the average person. The more highly evolved you become, however, the less able is any astrologer to prognosticate for you. Hence, as an advanced student, you should not permit anyone to pour suggestions into your mind through astrological readings which supposedly predict what will happen to you. […] An astrologer may tell you how the energies are going to play upon the evolved person, but he cannot tell what the effects of these energies will be because the evolved person does not react like the average man; [..]” (Ann Davies)

I thought this might be an interesting starting point for a discussion, especially because I have been wondering about this myself ever since I had a Vedic birth chart reading done a few years ago, which specifically mapped out some areas of my life, future partners, career, etc. In retrospect I sometimes find these predictions that have been made bothersome and counterproductive. I should say that I do have a lot of faith in the abilities of the person doing the reading, and I did get a lot of important and helpful data for self analysis and a better understanding of myself out of the whole thing though.

What do you think? Any personal experience on your end?

    Good points.
Astrology has a very bad track record. I still study it, and I am studying Vedic astrology.

    Hi,
At a 50% or less accuracy for the most astrologers, there has been no ability to predict or describe incidences given any school or technique, higher than chance. If there is a gifted astrologer, and he describes the techniques described to reach successful readings, the techniques are not duplicated by practitioners after him/her.
As above, so below. This is the assumption. There is order in the universe and cycles in the heavens to observe, record and predict. These Nut pictures in the sky somehow are images of what occurs on earth. The problem is, just what do the heavens reflect? Well, that's up to the astrologers, and by golly, they don't agree. And, often, (50%) of the time they are wrong, as their clients attest.
But there is order in the heavens, and below on earth. I feel as if astrologers are in a stage the natural philosophers and alchemists were in in the 1600's. They are exploring the truths, and trying out all the recipes, because in their hearts they know there is a deep truth, something that works, something that delivers. (We're talking Sir Isaac Newton, etc. ).
