Just for fun: I've been thinking of some different modes of "communication" to the divine and analogies to email or the web.

    1. Meditation: email TO you from the Divine -One way-You are listening/reading and not sending. Email spam filter hopefully filters out junk.

    2. Magick Ritual: One way FROM you: posting a message on a board and waiting for a reply. Hopefully you pick the right board and audience for what you want. Wait and see what comes back.

    3. Adoration: One way- PM(Private message) FROM you.

    4. Prayer: Chat room: 2 way conversation at same time.

    5. Egregore: a FORUM putting ideas and energy out into the world.

Send your corrections, changes, or additions.

My thoughts on how to frame this are a little different. I would say:

      1. Meditation: lurking on a forum or chat room. (Similar logic to David's.)

      2. Magick Ritual: Collaborative production software. (There's no effective magick without collaboration.)

      3. Adoration: PM is OK - I'd think more: eCard!

      4. Prayer: I think of this more as sent email. (I don't think of prayer as collaborative.)

      5. Egregore: yes, forum! (In contrast to, say, listserve, since each contribution leaves a permanent trace as on a forum.)

I've always thought of prayer as a speaking to the divine and then a silence of listening (thus 2 ways). This is opposed to the "psychic tantrum" type prayer of yelling at "God" about what you want and then cutting off the call.

But I can also buy your point of view. If this is the case though, what form would you consider a 2 way communication? Of course almost all are ultimately 2 ways, but I am refering to a near simultaneous 2 way give and take communication between the "human" and "divine."

I've tended to go with the half-duplex definitions: Prayer is "talking to God," meditation is "listening to God."

Ceremonial magick and deep vision work. (Both are collaborative.)
