Magical diary rut
-
I'm in a rut with my magical diary practice. I seem to be making the same entry every single day. I record the same practices every day with pretty much identical results from the day before. As you can imagine this gets seriously boring after a while and has lead me to question why I am bothering with it.
Reviewing such a record is about as stimulating as reading a telephone directory.I often sit before my diary wishing I had something meaningful and deep to write, but inspiration never seems to descend. So I end up just recording my practices and making some crappy comment about how pathetic the results were.
In my more cynical/sarcastic moments I've considered just writing "same sh*t, different day". I never have, but I have felt like doing that some days. How can I bring some life into my diary practice. At the moment it has become a dull, routine chore that I feel obligated to do because I'm supposed to. Unfortunately it's about as interesting and illuminating as an accounts ledger, or maybe even worse.

Have you considered expanding on the qabbalistic correspondences of the ritual? or adding more to your daily line-up? How about changing the conditions under which the ritual takes place?

Are you incorporating elements from the rest of your life? This is the real "circle" of your work - a number of different topics are possible.
The underlying idea is that you are both the observer and the materium being observed. The "lab record" should have sufficient information to show the processes attempted and the consequences. Consequences likely won't be evident without enough of a record of the life in general to give them context.

I think there is also the obvious that if you're doing the same shit everyday, maybe it's time to try something different? There's a number of shorter length rituals to do. Mix up asana and pranayama practises. Do the exercises in Liber HHH or use your journal to jot down some things that come to mind after picking apart a ritual.

It's amazing what a little nudge in the right direction can achieve sometimes. My pen has begun to sing. (Not literally of course. )
Thanks Jim.
