I have a question in regards to the OTOs structure with initiations.

Since as I understand the OTO its self does not require you to practice magick at all or doing any thing other than accept thelema[tell me if im wrong please this is what ive gathered from going to many OTO events]

To my understanding the initiations done with in the OTO are effective and such but im curious what does one have to do in order to move up in initiations unlike in magickal orders the most be intense magickal work before any such initiations

    93 Seti,

Just speaking from the protocol point of view, you posted a question about the Ordo Templi Orientis on the Temple of Thelema site. Your question sounds like somebody has to "reveal" some obligated material if you are in the OTO. You may want to ask a Lodge Master of an OTO body directly and probably in private. I think it would be more appropriate, but this is just my 2¢.

    93,

Its public knowledge that everyone is entitled to the Man of Earth (MOE) Degrees in the OTO if you are in good standing, i.e. pay your dues and don't do anything obviously and/or persistently against the rules you learn/read.

To progress beyond this, to Vth etc. one must be invited. Click here for more info from OTO's website.

Metzareph; Im not stupid I know all to well and even on a personal basis the difference with what is OTO and TOT and other Thelemic orders.

I asked this question knowing that some of the members of TOT are also members in the OTO!

I still consider this a questionable post for this forum. However, "questionable" still falls under the umbrella of "allowed" (if making bad judgments were illegal, we'd all be in jail!), so I left it.

No problem. Hope that site helped.

As an aside: I once had an OTO member in conversation and he was telling me about the chakras being aligned with the degrees as if it was some super secret, also about how Minerval is symbolically being conceived, 1st degree is birth, 2nd is death, etc. yet it is all there in plain language for every to read! I call the attitude 'secret-mongering.' How many people do you know like this? (rhetorical)

I have been an OTO member for over 6 years and participated in local bodies in various parts of California and Texas and I have never met anyone who I thought seemed to take something public domain and act as if they were special for knowing it or divulging it. Doesn't mean this never happens, but I have never had that experience.

On the other hand, I have had plenty of experience both inside and outside of the OTO of "know-it-alls" who will never progress another step in their develolpment as long as they're obsessed with comparing themselves to other people to alleviate their own inferiority impulse or gain the approval of others. Maybe that's what this person was doing, maybe not, I dunno.

But that's just one of those things about being human... gotta love it!

Perhaps it was my own experience but it actually happened more than once.

Yeah. 'Laugh & move on' seems an apt formula.
