Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Can anyone tell me why the planets to which the chapters of Liber VII correspond are ordered as they are(Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Sol, Mercury, Luna, Venus)?

I don't know the why of the planetary order. The planetary attributions are because of the symbolism of the verse.

The sequence isn't quite the chakra order, but that might be a clue. It covers the two lowest chakras (2 then 1), then the two middle ones (3 then 4 - and I think putting the solar chapter in the middle is critical somehow), then the top three (7, 6, 5). (I think ending on Venus is important to the pattern how - it fulfills the 7 symbolism of the whole, and climaxes the whole as a work of bhakti yoga.)

I just noticed something else suggesting a geometrial pattern.

Start at the two outside points and move in. You find the pairs are Mars-Venus, Saturn-Luna, and Jupiter-Mercury, with Sol at the center.

Astrologically, the Venus and Mars signs oppose each other; ditto for Jupiter and Mercury signs; and the Saturn signs oppose those ruled by the Moon (it's distinctive opposite in nature) and the Sun.

Indeed...it just seem plain odd to me that planets below & above Tiphareth are seperated according to tradition, but within those seperations they are ill-ordered - almost as it to suggest a sequencial pattern for manouvering on the Tree...

Ah...very observant Jim. This certainly seems to be moving in the right direction. Thanks!

If you arrange the planets around a hexagram in the order they are on the Tree of Life (with Sun in the center, and Saturn at the top standing in for the Supernal Triad), the the order Mars-Saturn-Jupiter-Sol-Mercury-Luna-Venus traces a sort of serpent shape.

It hadn't occurred to me that it was the top and bottom curves of that hexagram.
